An office that has suffered a 30% budget cut. Amazing if they want to spend whatever is remaining on busting pot dispensaries and MPs.

EAGLE ROCK (KTLA). Erotic massage parlors are popping up at an alarming rate all over Los Angeles, but due to a loophole in the law, there's not much the city can do about it.

The biggest concentration is in Eagle Rock, where online directory listings for erotic massage parlors reveal 15 in a two-mile stretch of Eagle Rock Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the large number of the establishments is due to changes to a state law in 2009 that loosened some of the requirements for massage therapists.

In Los Angeles, for example, they no longer have to apply for police permits, which require finger printing and background checks.

Some cities have started to crack down on erotic massage parlors, but Los Angeles has not. That could soon change, however, because residents in affected areas are starting to complain.

Many people in Eagle Rock say they think the businesses are destroying their neighborhood.

Staff members for City Councilman Jose Huizar, whose district includes Eagle Rock, say they are now working with city officials to decide what to do about the problem.

Huizar introduced a City Council resolution in January that would amend the current state law to give municipalities more control in dealing with the establishment of massage facilities.

The amendment also targets a provision in the state law that restricts cities' abilities to put special zoning requirements on state-licensed massage therapists.

Huizar's office said city officials are also considering changing city codes to require therapists to display their licenses.
