I would personally recommend regularly changing out your phone so I am not a proponent of getting a huge amount of minutes for multiple months or even a year. Verizon has a prepaid that is $9. 99 at most places and gives you 40 minutes and does not require any on-line registration. That is enough time to set up a handful of dates if needed. I then discard the phone once used up. I just figure (and maybe being overly cautious) that it is not wise to have the same number show up on a whole bunch of providers phones, especially since some of these providers may be involved in other illegal activity that might cause greater scrutiny.

IMHO, the best strategy is to stick with well-reviewed providers and start off with hh or shorter sessions just to see how things go. If the session goes well, you can often upgrade to a longer time. And even if the provider has another appt scheduled, at least you know she's someone you want to see again.

That includes any information about yourself or where you live. Many of these girls will not hesitate to attempt blackmailing you, setting you up for robbery, or using your personal information for any other nefarious purposes.
That brings me to the next point. You did not say if the outcome was at your home or at a hotel. You should never do an outcall at your home. Providers have actually scouted peoples places out then later sent their pimp / boyfriend to rob the place. Then of course you have the reasons I mentioned above. The girls come to your door and once they are inside, they want the money immediately. Once the girls collect the money, they say that paying for sex is illegal. All of my current UTR's are outcalls, that is how I met them and because I had so much success I guess like I told one other person I probably had rose colored glasses on and really did not expect an issue although its always in the back of your mind but you are hoping the event will be good. Secondly I live in a gated building so she has to be let in the front door and it gives me an opportunity to assess the situation and I am certainly not letting her pimp (and for the record I have never seen a pimp with any girl I've seen) enter the building. I am two weeks from retiring so I am not worried about my background checks any longer and I am certainly not worried about what my neighbors think or say about me; I honestly don't have to answer to anyone so it makes no difference to me what people say about me. IMHO, UTRs are a very different type of provider and come with their own special set of rules. BP pro scammers, OTOH, do this for a living and are often quite good at it. Even with your special circumstances and precautions, dealing with such scammers involves a level of risk and unpredictable variables that I think it's safe to say most hobbyists would prefer to avoid.
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement but may I point out that, unless your plan is to never work again or to only take Walmart greeter-type jobs, you'll almost certainly be asked to undergo a criminal background check for future employment. And LE databases report out the names of complainants as well as others involved in any incident involving LE response. So, depending on the specific background process, you may be asked to offer an explanation of the incident which caused you to call LE. While this may not be a problem or concern for you, personally, it's a consideration that other forum members may want to take into account.
With all due respect, everyone is accountable to someone else to some degree. And if you live in a gated building (rent or own) that means there is a management or HOA body to which all residents have some accountability. As someone who sits on an HOA board, many communities have specific clauses in their CC&Rs regarding the use of any unit for illegal activity, and participation in the hobby in any capacity certainly qualifies. I have no idea about the specifics of your community but it's generally not a good thing when a resident gets "on the radar" (even if it's only at the level of suspicion without proof) of that managing body. For tenants, that can be cause for being asked to vacate. For owners, things are more involved but it's still a complication best avoided.
Of course, all scam reports are welcome so kudos to you for doing so but it's also important to note that new scam ads show up all the time, and existing scammers change their names / pics / numbers often, so a report about one individual girl may be of limited value. There have been johns pulling this on prostitutes and vice visa. She juSt chose to use a sugar daddy / baby site as her advertising platform.
Never front the cash. The scammers are everywhere and getting more bold and sophisticated.

First off, a couple of points:
If she really was a cop she would have never sent you any nude photos of herself! They might send you nude pics, but not of themselves.
More importantly, if she was a cop she would have never let you leave like that. Their stings are designed to reel in as many of us as possible. I have not known of any sting operations where they just let people walk.
Conclusion:
That is not to say you were wrong to just cut your losses and bail. Who knows how the situation would have gone if you demanded your money back. And no matter what she did or said next you could not trust her enough to "get comfortable" if she wanted to keep the money and go through with providing you a service.
So you did exactly what I would have done. But it sucks to get ripped off!

But most gift card scams (at least the ones I've read about) involve the scammer asking, via phone or email, for the codes or numbers on the back of the card. By doing that they can use the value of the card to make purchases on the web without ever having to take possession of the physical card.
From your description it sounds like you were asked to buy the card and bring it to the session. So, as long as you retain possession of it, and don't give out any numbers or codes, handing her the card at the beginning of the session would be the same as handing her cash.
Again, I haven't seen this provider but I don't get a "scam vibe" from her website. My best guess is that she's been ripped off (maybe with counterfeit bills) and this is the defense mechanism she's come up with. By asking a first-timer to buy the gift card, she's reducing her risk.
FWIW, I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt here but that still doesn't mean I'd be happy jumping through those kinds if hoops and she definitely does not say anything about gift cards on her site. There's something strange going on here. You did the right thing by bailing. The point I made earlier is still valid. As long as the client doesn't give the provider any numbers or codes from the back of the Vanilla card, then having the card in his hand when he shows up for the appt is the equivalent of having cash in hand. The only way this turns into a scam is if we get some report that she calls a client and asks him for the numbers on the card itself.
Otherwise, it's still my theory that this could be the (excessive) defense mechanism of a provider who has been ripped off. I'm not saying I couldn't be wrong about this, just that it hasn't yet been proved.
