It's always posted on the menu but is easy to overlook. Most restaurants in NYC do accept CC's and those who don't will usually accept a check, but how many people carry around their check book with them? Then there are people who work in a tip oriented industry. I am sure they don't report 100% of their tip wages?

Nowhere in your first post did you mention receipts, or their certification (or lack thereof). The rebuttal to what you stated was simply based upon this first post. A cash only business is legal. Period. Assuming all other parts of the business are legal and the documentation of it are being done correctly. The way you're adding things to make the business not legitimate has no bearing on your first post. We all get that one must keep proper records for taxation and be properly licensed to perform certain services. But again, that's not what a few of us disagreed to when you posted your first post about a cash only business being illegal. If a business is keeping those records properly, they are in compliance with federal and state taxation guidelines.
Are we on the same page here? Because it doesn't seem like a disagreement actually exists on the core subject. I'm just trying to figure out where you're going with this "read carefully" and the "google is your friend" comments.

Cash-intensive businesses will draw scrutiny from many agencies. Some of them are also reviewing credit card remittances, especially since a Square credit card reader you can plug into your smart phone costs the same as a craft-brew six-pack.
Notice I did not mention LE; they're not as active as the non-LE agencies in this regard. The non-LE agencies are as a rule looking at concealed income (think PayPal vendors making six figures selling widget parts yet pleading poverty come April), not whether the income is illegal (excepting drugs or terrorist activity).
Many of the indy ladies do not clear as much as you think. I won't talk about them, but I suspect 10-20 percent of you gents are playing with money you got from claiming your ex-GF's grandkids, or thousands of dollars of "fuel tax credits" on your returns smdh.

Ummm, I own a business and I only accept cash. No CC and no checks. The only exception to that rule is when I do business with other businesses or the occasional municipality. I would say 90%-95% of my business is cash only. And I am under no scrutiny from any agency nor have I ever been.

I recently posted a Rant against (no names) on the springfield board. Let me tell you why.

I also want to add that technology is our biggest friend and enemy. It can be used against us. It can also be used to help us. For those of you wishing to shelter yourself or parts of your life from others the burner app could work wonders for you. I am personally too cheap to do it (though it isn't much) and don't really have a need to use it. There isn't anyone in my personal life who could be used as blackmail or whatever against me from engaging in this hobby. Some of you may have things like that to worry about...then I suggest the burner app.
