Anyways, I just go by the simple rule: "What does the person who is selling me a point of view have to gain by me accepting an aspect of their point of view, or even accepting the framing and narrative they're using?" It puts things in perspective more quickly than pretty much anything else I've found. Unfortunately, most people simply look for something to echo what they want to hear, and to demonize those they're afraid of, and we end up with what we've got.

What is the point of view I'm trying to sell here? Simply that the truth matters. I want the world to be less insane than it is. My hope is that anyone reading this will let their blood pressure return to its normal level (if anything I said raised it) and evaluate what I said on its merits, and consider using the lensing rule, even just on a trial basis, for their personal media consumption.

I'll take this opportunity to point out that I've said absolutely nothing espousing a political view here, and have only commented on the nature of media outlets.
