In my situation I feel it's better to make a payoff than have to explain scratches or any other bodily damage a psycho SW could inflict. I also worry about damage to my car interior that could be tough to explain to the family. I look at it as a cost that is part of the hobby.

I think its best to just stay away from SWs. I've always gone for the little skinny spinners that would have zero chance in a physical confrontation. The last few years, unless I'm in a SW friendly market, I've been staying away from them.

Experience
I think you are bound to face the situation of a demanding SW sooner or later. I picked one up and she started directing me to a "good location" (inexperience on my part). Then I started to notice that she seemed erratic and at times even incoherent. When we "arrived" she started looking around like she was expecting to see someone which caused me to finally think "why here?". I quickly changed locations and she got upset, which freaked me out even more. Then I told her that I changed my mind and she got upset. She wanted $100 to get out. I said no I'd give her $20 if she got out. It dawned on me that if I gave her the $20 she could still sit there causing a scene. Finally I wadded up a $20 while she watched, rolled down her window, and threw the wadded $20 out the window and told her that her money was out there. When she finally decided that there would be no more, she got out cursing me. I had the car in gear before the door even closed. Picking up SW is a high risk activity.

I'm glad you wrote what you did Phukzalot. I am an inexperienced street cruiser and I wrote a post a month or so ago about a SW I let slip away because I was unprepared. I did think maybe I should have picked her up just to talk to her and try to get a number for later. I thought if I did that I should give her some money for her time and after reading what you wrote I am in total agreement.

Turkey John, thanks for sharing you're valuable lesson. Experience is the best teacher, but no one lives long enough to experience everything themselves, we need to learn from each others experiences too.
A few thoughts:
After asking -- and the SW refusing, (to get out), the SW is now a trespasser, and becomes fair game for any means of removal necessary. I wouldn't exactly beat her to a pulp, but I wouldn't worry about hurting her in the process of removal either. Just get her the fuck out as if you're removing her from a burning building.
But, backing up:
I've read on the forum (other areas than just WI) where other members reported 'not dating -- but getting SW phone numbers' for later hook-ups. I'm not sure who or where it was posted, other than it seemed that it was by seasoned mongers. With that said, after reading Sir Phukzalot's report, I would not be so inclined to do that -- to pick one up just for her number. He gave some good advice.

Gave her some loose bills and said,"I know what you are doing, I am not interested in that, I am sorry you think you have to do it, this is all I can spare right now, get a meal." They are usually thankful, do not argue and get out as soon as I stop. It also gives me plausable deniability in the event of LE stopping me in the process.
Not sure if this wold have worked with the latest episode or not.
Asking for a phone number without driving around the block means she's standing outside the car longer and more chance of LE seeing me. That's why I do not do it.
I don't think there's a good, safe way. Probably should stop.

Ok, I've been around the block a few time. Sure I got a lot of SW phone numbers. Don't think I ever was able to hook up again. No answer, disconnected, never existed. Don't even bother getting a phone number. Believe me you don't want their phone number.
I was in a SW friendly area awhile back out of state and got a few numbers. Don't know why, I'm not calling them again. I will most likely just find someone new. Hell, I can't even seem to get a massage therapist around her to keep her number for more than a couple of months tops.

Just got a Christmas Card from a provider. Some of you may have gotten the same one. Its a family pic and if I didn't know her I'd say it was an all star cast from Deliverance. One guy no shirt on and its obviously cold out. One looks like the banjo player in Deliverance. She is seated with her husband. OMG. Does he know who we are? When you are horny and she's the only gal around she doesn't look bad. Put in daylight seat among some inbreds and she looks the part. Perfect tight body for a 43 year old except for a bad case of smoker's wrinkles in the cheeks. Didn't think she was still around but appears to be doing some direct mail marketing.
