Question: Got me a room at a hotel for my and my escort. Don't wanna get caught by the SO, so gave a fake addy and paid cash. Hotel photocopied my drivers license. Whats that all about?

It's not the hotel room purchase that can get you in trouble. You can get those all day, le wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
It's who you're with in that room that brings up the anx. That's why it's helpful to take someone that has reviews or reports from a known member of our board or another known site where reviews are given.
The thought that you're not the 1st one to take her in that room makes things easier.
That being said, I've taken strangers a couple of times myself, not always obeying the rules, letting the little head out speak the dumber head.
It's worked out for me so far, but you can bet when I did it I was looking out the curtains when she would get there. Still have to try to get a warm and fuzzy before proceeding.
Be safe, use reviewed/reported ones if you can.

Every hotel I've been to recently has wanted to copy my DL, so I reckon it's pretty much standard practice. Never got anything in the mail from them.

It's so they can bill you if you trash the place. A driver's license number is about as good as an SSN for collections.
If there is drug perephenalia or drugs left out in the room, the sherriff's office might track you down, but 9 times out of 10, the notel people will just swipe it in the bin. You only have to worry about it with an SO if they are already worried about you. If they've hired a PI to follow you, and they track you to the hotel, then the PI will probably try to bribe the clerk for the photocopy. This is to screw you in divorce court later on. Of course, by then the PI has pics of you and the lady of the night going to your room, so this is just one extra turn in the screw.
