We've had a lot of posts about rinsers of late, including the one I mentioned, SeekingWhit.

Here's some additional perspective on the timeworn rinsing game, and a final tip for outsmarting the rinsers.

I haven't vanilla dated for quite some time. But some years ago I read an article about single women in Chicago, LA, and NYC who would use Match to get free dinners every night from different guys, using Match as their hunting ground.

In other words, rinsing is ubiquitous in the online dating world, not just on sugar sites.

Rinsing also existed prior to the Internet. One of my old female acquaintances (now in her 50's) was a hot young thing in NYC in the early 1990's. She told me that when she went to bars, she never took her wallet, because she knew that guys would be buying her drinks. (Today, at 54, she would have difficulty pulling that off, of course.) She wasn't gloating; but she admitted to accepting drinks from guys who had *zero* chance of getting in her pants.

We should therefore not be surprised that rinse scammers proliferate on Seeking like dandelions on a suburban lawn in May.

The moral is: always break off communication when a Seeking SB asks for an upfront fee at the MnG. There is a 99.999% that you will be immediately blocked, and lose your $100.

The *only* exception is when you ask a girl to come to your neck of the woods, and *you* offer *her* a reasonable travel fee.

For example: I live in the Beechmont / Amelia area. I am going to ask a girl who lives in West Chester to drive to meet me at a Starbucks on Beechmont. I will probably offer her $20 to $30 for driving down here. I've done that before. Last winter I offered a girl $30 to drive out of her way to meet me on the east side.

But that's different. $20 or $30 isn't enough for a scammer to turn into a business model. $100 is an amount that adds up quickly. And $150 certainly is.

One final tip: If you are comfortable doing so, use the videochat feature for as much pre-screening as you can.

Scammers will always avoid videochats, because they don't want to be seen. SeekingWhit used every excuse she could think of to dodge a videochat. This was because she knew that she couldn't charge for it.

I think we can call SeekingWhit a "Confirmed" Rinser. I have her real name and, at one time, had her SM but someone tipper her off and she wiped most oof if not all of it. The rinsers get spoiled and it takes a long time to get their expectations readjusted.

Were your 'few times in the past' meetings all casual i. e. not for sex? Did you pay her for these meetings? If so, that would definitely make her a rinser. I would also say that doing so would have left her expecting she could get money without putting out. Just one more reason for never offering money at the MnG. I sent a few approaches but she never engaged.

Yes. By definition I believe she can be labeled a rinser. All prior meetings were casual with no intimicy and I paid for those meetups. Met 2-3 times each time promising that next time there would be intimacy. I guess lesson learned was that I should have not provided any payment or at least a reduced amount. I will give it her she was a pro. After the first meetup she pulled up her profile and showed me her cancelling her account on SA it saying I found the right person and not going to engage with anyone else. Bombed me with snaps for a few days immediately asking for funds. A few weeks later I notice another account with eerily similar photos. I start chatting and we agreee to chat offline and lo and behold is the same contact. She didn't even realize it was the same account she was talking to earlier. You live and learn. Watch out for this one.

If you give them an allowance, you are telling them they can get it without giving anything in return. Worse, you create the impression they are in charge and can be demanding. Never offer more than a token amount for gas and a babysitter - never more than $20-40. And then only if it is a single mom living alone! And never offer any money in advance!
