It was good that the cops did not see you and pull you over. It is a good idea to avoid pulling immediately over for a SW if it is dark at night. The reason is that quite often it is hard to tell if a cop is behind you. It is much better to loop around or pull over to side street and make a you-turn so you are facing the main drag. The other option is pulling into a parking lot. This way it is easier to see if a cop is driving by.
