I've been to OC many times, and there are basically two types of apartments in OC: Gated community where you type in a code to enter or gated apartment tower where you drive up 5 floors to park at the roof. The gated community usually has 1 entrance by leasing that is always open during daytime, and park on the street, pay attention to the building number. Gated apartment tower is intimidating but you get used to it, if you can't follow a car in you drive up to the car intercom and type in the code. Driving up 5 floors is 3 minutes.
