Now as for night lurkers keeping to themselves, who knows? Anyone lurking in the night under the stairs could be ready to scam, hurt, rob, or kill you. Used to hang out in that area when I was younger because I wanted to be around the cool kids. As long as you mind your business and keep your head down no one will mess with you. Also, you can wear a hat, hoodie and covid mask to stay anonymous.
But like what J Simp said, Sugar Creek can be suspect depending on where you're at, at night. But if you're at a budget motel, there's probably other stairs you can take, if you're willing to go the long way.
