Good observations! Sounds like you "saw" many things that a lot of mongers driven by the little head would have not seen or would have ignored! So give yourself a pat on the back for being aware! Kudos!

Couple of technique comments and perhaps others will chime in with their thoughts?

#1 and this is the most important! NEVER and I mean [B]NEVER[/B], kick yourself for listening to the Spidey Senses! Those will keep you SAFE. It has always been my experience that when the Spidey Sense are ignored, trouble follows! So you did the right thing to back off! Back off, reassess. Observe and learn.

Second, when you see something like you described, I would do more recon! Drive by several times. Can you get a look in the vans through the windshield? Is the tint low enough that up close you can see inside? Is there anyone inside the vans? Next, what if you talk to the dudes working on the car? Start with something about the car: nice paint, sharp wheels, got a nitrous kit on that? Guys like their cars and it would take ya 30-seconds to get an idea if that were a couple of cops or civies. One could ask for the location of the nearest DD. That might be the perfect way to root out LE?

Third, one can always go around the corner or onto the next block and park. Then take a stroll around the block just to get a feel for the situation. When you walk past the Vans can you see anything inside? Hear anything? I have often taken a stroll to get a lay of the land, see what is in a backyard, what is down an alley, etc. If it is a place where walking & you don't go together, what are you doing there in the first place?

So there are some suggests on "techques" one can use when the Spidy Senses go off. Techniques to confirm the senses or learn and adjust the senses.

But always remember rule #1 - [B]NEVER[/B], kick yourself for listening to the Spidey Senses!

The place I went to was just a house at the corner of McKinley St. Just off of Frankford Ave. Philadelphia.
