Forgive my ignorance, I never got to partake at LFBC before the sh*t hit the fan. But what is the "paperbag"? Never heard of this, and I must say it's got me intrigued.
I see some of the places use the in-house training by watching a senior doing (being on the job for two weeks or less) moreso at a foot massage place and I sure they did not go thru the CMT program. They have a high turn over to contend with.

I had probably a couple hundred Swedish style massages at a legit place in Tijuana over a 6-7 year period. An hour of legit massage cost $25 plus $5-10 tip. There was some erotic tease from a few of the girls, but otherwise legit all the way. Obviously the girls did not have the equivalent training of a CMT in California. However, some of them delivered awesome therapeutic massages. Others appeared to know what they were doing but I suspect they caused me, or at least contributed to a significant spinal problem that I developed. Too often I left that place with stiffness and / or pain. I was a massage novice and rested on the no pain no gain premise. Being that it's Good Friday and things are slow at work, I began to wonder, What Would Jesus Do to fill the time? Two places in Tijuana that I am aware in Vivamex and Aztec both on ave. Revolution. Vivamex had one great MT over the years that stood out. I asked the office management why the difference between her and other MTs at Vivamex. They claimed all came from the same school training. At that time it was hard to understand the variation other that is is very hard work to do light swedish because one has to control and vary the pressure for eash stroke. Vivamex prices are no longer $25 but close to $50 per hour with no promotion on weekends. VIP membership at has been discontinued or modified to where Americans are leftout. Offering discounts to local business program only. $30 for 90 minutes was a wonderful price not including tip while it lasted. Shower before and after included. Deep oil treatment not as deep as hoit K-oil treatment.
Technically light swedish, lomi lomi, shaitu, acupressure, raki, thai and other methods are available in Scal. The very best MT that somes to my mind are not available to do pure swedish light massage. It is hard on them and they prefer shaitsu and combination to make the revenue. They do legit massages for long period with a very little tease, if any. Swedish light is the first massage taught at the local massage schools in Scal. Massage intern MT suck at it. At top Spa prices I am sure these MT would agree to a Swedish but return to combination, which is exactly what results in injury.
Light swedish is more a touch sensory rebuilding tool and having young well trained hand are true healing power in cognitive and neuro restructuring requiring full body exposure. Great endurance is hard to find in a lady MT on a regular basis.
I love a good light swedish massage but very hard to find one and affordable. .

Most foot massage places have very little privacy, which makes it really difficult for HE.

VivaMex was originally owned and operated by an American. For a time they made a slightly more sincere effort than Azteca to have their girls properly trained, but those days are surely gone as is the gringo owner. American tourists, male and female, were the target market. Around 2006-07, a rampage of police shakedowns of tourists combined with the hysteria of Mexico drug violence drove Tijuana tourism to extinction (except for the sex tourism of the zona norte) , VivaMex went into the toilet. Though it still is in operation. Azteca was the place I frequented because I liked the sensual touch that my favs delivered and I was just addicted to the place long before VivaMex opened. I knew from talking to the girls that many received 100% of their training from designated veterans already working there. No school and not much time to hit the ground running. Azteca's prices have not changed, and discounts are still available as far as I know from VivaMex in connection with the website favored by Tijuana mongers. That site was also previously owned by the original VivaMex founder and it is still used to hype VivaMex.
Too bad you are having problems finding good Swedish. As stated, I live in L. A. And I'm having no problem finding therapists who really know how to deliver on the Swedish. Light and deep tissue. There has been a phenomenal proliferation of "Thai Massage" places in Hollywood and Koreatown. They are literally on every commercial street and minimall, sometimes in clusters, sometimes disguised as Chiropractor offices, health centers, beauty shops, et al.
The expectations originally were to expect legit only in these places and the girls are generally very well trained in all styles, including real Thai Massage which actually is something like Yoga accomplished with the aid of the therapist with the customer fully dressed. Lately, seems to me that enough of these places provide HE so that you could go to 2 new places every week and come away with a great massage and HE in virtually every one of them. It's starting to feel like a Golden Age of high quality rub and tug around where I live.
True that Acu and Shiatsu are favored over Swedish in traditional Korean places and also the Chinese places in L. A. But seems like even in this category there are plenty of exceptions also where good to great Swedish happens.
