There's a ton of great information about providers in this thread but also general safety tips on how to behave and protect yourself. Never feel like you're tied to something and always give yourself the chance to walk away just in case. That being said, if you stick with those that have been reviewed here and on the oThER site you should be fine. Just try and look at reviews within the last six months as providers do have a tendency to change, degrade, move away, or retire.
In / out is a personal preference. When living alone I much prefer in. I think it's less conspicuous personally. But, that's also a matter of preference and a lot of people here might have their own opinions.
