But I just got an Expresss VPN, which I am playing with for various purposes. Mainly, of course, to hide my IP address and cover my tracks. I find that Express works great (unlike TOR, which I tried a couple years ago, and it nearly crashed my computer! But Express is easy to use, even for elderly, digitally challanged mongers like me!

So here's my question: How is that sites like tryst, STG, and several others, are able to block me, even though I'm using an IP address via Express which is from New York State. I could see where they might recognize, and block, foreign IP addresses. By how are they able to recognize the IP from New York that I'm using via Express VPN, as something to block? The message I get basically says that they've had unwanted issues with that IP address. But my question is, how can they recognize a DOMESTIC IP address, and block it? Does it mean that they are blocking only that particular IP address, because perhaps they actually had a problem with someone else that used it from a VPN? Or are they blocking a whole class of IP addresses from New York? And is there a work-around to defeat that? Some of you mongering nerdy young tech experts surely must have some input here? Thanks in advance for any answers to this!

You're connecting to other providers' servers to proxy out, and so have a bunch of other people doing potentially nefarious things. Thus, they've gotten blacklisted from some sites. A lot of this happens automatically as attacks are detected and then the source IPs are automatically blocked.

There are some times when I'm on my VPN and follow links to STG and it just goes through, and a lot of times it won't.

I use Avast VPN but still can't get on STG without switching it off even with some basic trickery. It's a pain in the balls but I don't use STG much anyway, so no biggie.

I thinks that's it. Express seems to have quite a limited number of IPs to choose from. Only two in NYC. A few others from LA, SF, and a few other major cities. So most other VPNs are the same?

But, there are also companies whos job it is to track down these IPs, flag them, and sell a list to interested sites. So it can really be hit or miss, and the VPN sites add and remove IPs occasionally to try to stay ahead of the game. I also use express, but am likely to move it soon. I was mainly using it to get around region blocks for NHL games, but the NHL seemed to have caught onto them as well. SO by next season, I will likely switch.
