If providers want to be treated with the same respect due other professional service people then they need to adhere to the same standards as those professionals.
I would hope that providers look at black list sites the same way smart mongers look at negative reviews here. In real life we check with others to see if things previously set are still on. This is the same thing. As to the blacklisting, that sure smacks of extortion to me. I would hope providers, at least the smarter ones like I tend to frequent, are as discerning as some of us gents and look for a pattern, not one report. The ad should say "$.25 / hhr, $$/hr. 50% cancellation fee within 24 hours" or something of that sort. Who am I to dictate a providers business model. If she wants to honestly include this as part of her business, good for her.
But it's part of the "is this worth it" equation. A cancellation fee adds to my cost and, in effect, reduces the value I get from that provider partner.
It's like booking hotels. If I'm going to Vegas next weekend and looking to book a hotel. I find two rooms that I like. Good location, size, casino, blah blah blah. All the same. By coincidence the nightly rate is exactly the same too. But here's the rub. One hotel has a "by 6 on day of arrival" cancellation fee and the other has a "24 hours" cancellation fee. Of course I'm going to take the "by 6" option because the 24hours choice is more risky if something unexpected comes up.
At the same time, if the 24hours cancellation choice is a bigger room, better location, maybe includes breakfast or some such chit, then maybe the tradeoff is worth it.
But here's the thing for providers to consider, if you're going to charge it, have the guts to advertise it. For me, there are many provider partners on this board who I would continue to see even with this cost added. And there are some who would fall off my list. Not because they're bad providers but because, with this added cost, I just don't see the value anymore. It's like the ads that say "no CIM" or "no blah blah blah". I like CIM or blah blah blah but I still see some of those provider because, as the saying goes, they're so freaking good at everything else I don't even miss it. Same with cancellation. Some providers are just so good, I'll deal with it. Others, not so much.
I agree that mongers doing a no show without extenuating circumstances is bad business. At the same time, tossing in the cancellation fee thing and the blacklist threat after the fact is just another definition of "upsell", it's no different than saying $.5 / hr and then telling someone "but it's another 0. 5 for FS". No respectable monger would think that's ok and no respectable provider partner would either.
We report here on folks who upsell. I would hope we also start reporting here on folks who add the cancellation fee and blacklist threat after the fact. If it ain't in the ad, it ain't on the table. If it is in the ad and you get charged, well bubba, show up next time.

BTW, I also work in a "service" business and we briefly added a cancellation charge. The effect was obvious in the first couple months and we dropped it because we lost a lot more from calls not coming in than we did from appointments not showing up.
Her and I never technically 'worked' together. I haven't talked to her in a year and a half. I met her right before starting out here, posted with her, and dealt with the backlash. I thought it would be great to have a 'friend' in the 'biz already, to learn from and talk to. I concur. Black list sites are for the guys who DESERVE to be there. Not a guy who canceled. I get cancellations. Just got one this morning. It happens! I had one in Pittsburgh. It happens! It comes with the job.
Here in Cincinnati, I've had a few OFFER to send me compensation for a canceled appointment, but I didn't ask for it. I thought that was very respectful and sweet of them. They know who they are. I do not expect this from each guy who cancels. I wouldn't get it! LOL.
Also, I agree with PD, it should be posted in the ads. Maybe then they would think twice about scheduling / canceling.
I also agree with DW, the provider, or whomever acts in such a way, should be outed so all know who has what type of behavior.
As a guy on NR stated, it goes both ways. Remember that ladies!

By coincidence the nightly rate is exactly the same too. But here's the rub. One hotel has a "by 6 on day of arrival" cancellation fee and the other has a "24 hours" cancellation fee. Of course I'm going to take the "by 6" option because the 24hours choice is more risky if something unexpected comes up.
At the same time, if the 24hours cancellation choice is a bigger room, better location, maybe includes breakfast or some such chit, then maybe the tradeoff is worth it.
But here's the thing for providers to consider, if you're going to charge it, have the guts to advertise it. For me, there are many provider partners on this board who I would continue to see even with this cost added. And there are some who would fall off my list. Not because they're bad providers but because, with this added cost, I just don't see the value anymore. It's like the ads that say "no CIM" or "no blah blah blah". I like CIM or blah blah blah but I still see some of those provider because, as the saying goes, they're so freaking good at everything else I don't even miss it. Same with cancellation. Some providers are just so good, I'll deal with it. Others, not so much.
I agree that mongers doing a no show without extenuating circumstances is bad business. At the same time, tossing in the cancellation fee thing and the blacklist threat after the fact is just another definition of "upsell", it's no different than saying $.5 / hr and then telling someone "but it's another 0. 5 for FS". No respectable monger would think that's ok and no respectable provider partner would either.
We report here on folks who upsell. I would hope we also start reporting here on folks who add the cancellation fee and blacklist threat after the fact. If it ain't in the ad, it ain't on the table. If it is in the ad and you get charged, well bubba, show up next time.
