I'm curious, for all of you that carry heavy protection on dreams, how do you handle keeping it out of sight when you're getting comfortable? I'm always worried about mine getting stolen or used against me, or red flagging me as a badge. Feel free to PM if you prefer.

For lighter, but still Really Good To Have protection, I have a couple of specialized fighting knives that fit very well into front pants pockets. They're not showy, but they're extremely functional, and my casual handling of them is usually enough of a statement in itself.

My favorite is still the zapper, that also goes in the heavy jacket, since it tends to de-escalate things really quickly, without bringing it to a life or death level, and it does not qualify as a concealed weapon under virginia law (neither does pepper spray, but you don't want to pepper spray the inside of your car.) Snap that puppy on for a couple of seconds, and you'll find you suddenly have a lot more space around you.

For car action, those things are also close at hand, and have very rarely been useful, but having them tends to set the tone, in your attitude, when things are starting to go sideways. Make sure they're placed where you can reach them easily, and where she can't see them, and be ready to immediately make it clear that you're not interested in putting up with any shit, not loudly, just calmly, and dead clearly, with full eye contact, and you hopefully won't have to touch them. (I only have once, and that was when I was up in DC, and had someone in my car that decided it might be a good idea to threaten to cut me. They changed their mind, and no one got cut.).

If you EVER pull them, be ready and apparently eager to use them, to lower your chance of folks thinking maybe they can take it from you. If you hesitate, they could.
