[/quote]i don't take it the wrong way, but i think perhaps it is you who took what i wrote the wrong way. i never meant to suggest that the fact they found even 1 girl wasn't disturbing ot that it wasn't absolutely great they rescued 4 local girls and 69 nationwide. in fact, i'd think it would have been absolutely great even if they had just rescued only 1 girl (consider the old starfish parable).

so the most obvious answer to your question is that they should be looking for the customers as much as the victims it is noteworthy that, while this operation netted not even 100 pimps, it did not lead to the arrest of even a single john, which are who they should really be going after as much as anyone. if the guys who respond to these ads had some legitimate fear answering an ad for an **** provider would lead to their arrest, i guarantee you that far fewer guys would answer such ads and / or would avoid any ads that even hinted the provider might be ****. and if that happened the ads would lose their effectiveness and these pimps wouldn't be able to promote these gals in that way (unfortunately, many of them would just find some other way to do it. dry up the demand and the supply will be forced to go away or at least go somewhere else.
another answer is that rather than doing things that are mostly for show or trying to depict this as being a problem that is primarily being exacerbated by what are for most part a legitimate advertising sites or to the extent they promote illegal services 99% of even those ads are by consenting adults performing what are really just victimless crimes (and trying to earn livings precisely without having to resort to a pimp, leo should do the regular though not so media-friendly gruntwork that they do every day, such as posing as susceptible teens in chatrooms, placing decoy ads, performing more streetwalker sweeps with the emphasis on age-checks. etc. and while you're at it as long as you think this problem is something worth spending any sum of money on as long as it saves even a single child, how about setting up more special shelters and rehab programs for the homeless teen runaways who may be most at risk? not only would that help protect these children from sexual abuse by older male predators, it would protect them from all the other dangers of the street such as drug abuse, disease and malnutrition. i saw nothing in that article that indicated this high-profile one-time sweep that saved a few small handfuls of children was any more cost-effective than these other programs which social welfare agencies and law enforcement authorities perform everyday.
