I looked this up (I'll admit I was lazy & I satisfied myself with few-year-old data) and it seems that the per capita police force in DC is by far the largest among US cities, just as you would suspect when driving around late at night and seeing the incredible number of police cars. The per capita police force is more than a factor of two higher than the national average, and about 20% higher than the next biggest force (NYC).
In a way it makes sense, with all the government stuff to protect. And so when there's no crisis, they have nothing to do but police the streets. I visited your fine city again recently and it was locked down. After midnight, I found police cars parked in many spots, just watching.

Checked out many of the usual haunts last night/this morning. Not much to be seen around the loop. I think I know where they may be hiding..at least the ones worth having...Took the patrol (yes you're welcome LL) down around NY Ave, and some other well known hunting (some more haunting ..!) areas just north of there. Doing a little pre-RT research to find a good location for an all-nighter, I checked in at a Downtown NW DC hotel.
