As I posted a few weeks ago, a Hartford Courant journalist, Matthew Kauffman, wrote a column complaining that the Courant had published a modest 1-inch box ad for Best Spa in Meriden in the Courant's Sports section (Kauffman also referred to WSG in his column and quoted me, DiverBrian and Monger22 by name).
As a follow-up, in their Friday Oct. 10th issue, the Courant published a much larger ad for the Seven Star Spa in Waterbury, prominently advertising a massage, exercise equipment (surely unused) and a $10 off coupon! The ad was in the Sports section again. I mentioned this in a post Friday on the Waterbury board.
Lo and behold, the ante has been upped! In today's Sports Section of the Courant (Sunday, Oct. 12th), Best Spa has gotten bold - their new ad is much bigger than their old tiny ad, in fact it's slightly bigger than the Seven Star ad (which also reappeared today), and the new Best Spa ad prominently advertises the Body Massage services that they offer. I think Kauffman's blood pressure just went up ten points! (although I do not wish him any ill will).
This could get interesting.
I think with ad revenue down, as it has been since 9/11, an Courant cutting back on spending this is just a way to increase ad revenue. Nothing else. A bottom line decision.

Monger22 is surely right on. I have a good friend high up in the advertising department of another mainstream daily Connecticut paper and I know they are actively pursuing these types of establishments. Some of the stories he's told me about visiting them for sales calls are almost worthy of this forum for pure entertainment value, but those aren't my stories to tell!
Dear Monger22 - The post by JimmyDR that you are referring to is on the Waterbury board. Since I was writing about a Waterbury AMP's coupon in the Hartford Courant, I posted info on both the Waterbury & Hartford boards, while my posts about Best Spa are on both the Meriden & Hartford boards. Sorry for the confusion.
JimmyDR suggested that I framed the article but the big question is - who could I show it to?
Regarding Best Spa, I stopped by there yesterday afternoon just to check out the place and found that their location is a big drawback. Check out the Meriden board for my report.
After years of Conn mongering i decided to check out Hoyloke after reading many favorable posts on that board over the last 10 months. I got the areas to cruise from some board members there an went in daytime to get a lay of the land. I should have also asked for safe areas to park an location of short time motels.
Kicking myself now for not doing it.
Got there in 45 min from Hartford at 8pm last night. Near post office for about 6 residential blocks is the cruise. Saw it was more casual an less drug scene than Hartford. Immediatly saw 6 latinas, all 20 to 25 an all good .All 7 an 8s. Then i see this beauty with long full brown hair down to her waist. Georgous. Brown kakia jacket with lots of pockets. Body to die for. Figure cant be a SW. She was...This is what makes mongering worth it. By far best i have found in years. 20yo. Lives on Walnut St with parents. $20
That is when i wish i had short time motel. Parked on dark street.
Girls up there very different than Hartford. All i saw were white or latina an not dressed like they came from the hood. Also streets looked alot safer. No sign anywhere of LE. Pretty open an not hard to find.

goddamn country. CT's budget is way out of whack, taxes are being increased, police are being laid off, etc., so I ask why it is resources are devoted to prosecuting people for our
victimless hobby? In almost no other country in the world, save the fundamentalist Muslim ones, is it treated as a crime the way it is here.
When are we going to shake off this Puritanism that belongs to another age?

Wed nite 5 SW arrested by Hartford PD in a sting. All 5 were Latinas in their 30s. Areas of arrests were Broad St, New Britain Ave and Dutch Point. One 68 YO guy from Norwich also arrested . Wrong place at wrong time.
Noticed last nite very few SW out anywhere.
HPD press release about recent arrests. They're giving out names, addresses, and birthdays of those involved (I've edited their press release to protect the not so innocent).
Be careful out there.

Hartford Police Vice Squad Makes Arrests.
(Hartford) – On Wednesday, October 15, 2003, the detectives from the Hartford Police Department Vice Squad, along with officers from the South District, conducted an undercover detail targeting prostitution in the areas of Dutch Point, Broad and New Britain Avenue. There areas are well known hot spots for street level prostitution.
A total of five (5) females were arrested and charged with prostitution:

A***** L**, ##-##-71, of NCA
C****** D********, ##-##-70, ### ************ Avenue, Hartford

Also arrested for patronizing a prostitute was ***** *******, ##/##/35, of ## ********************, Norwich, Connecticut.
A***** L** was also served with an arrest warrant from the Berlin Police Department.
In remarking on the 4 p.m. undercover detail, Sergeant Franco Sanzo, Supervisor of the HPD Vice Squad stated, “The Vice Squad will continue to monitor these areas and take appropriate action. This was a good job by all."

I was out for a quick ride around 10 p.m. Monday evening, October 20th on Washington St., New Britain Ave., Webster, Barry Square, the beginning of Franklin Ave., then Wethersfield to Wyllys Street, down by Dutch Point and on to the highway. Virtually NOTHING going on, except one decent-looking light-skinned black SW (late 20s?) in front of C-Town who was snapped up by a silver luxury SUV just in front of me. Cop car sitting on Wyllys St near Wethersfield, which explains why no action there.
And Alpha appeared to still be closed - no neon light in window, and absolutely no cars in front of the building or on the street nearby.
I must say I am becoming deeply saddened by the situation in Hartford. The Alpha is showing no signs of re-opening. Alomost nothing to be found on the streets (at least my stomping ground the south end). I wonder what has happened to the women of Alpha. I know not many are from around here but if the place stays closed much longer they will need to find an income somewhere. Things have been so slow I had to resort to an advocate woman. Kelli was here name. Incall at a meadows area hotel. Looks 6, performance 6. not bad at all for $1.5.
Sounds like a trip to Holyoke my be needed if I can find the time to sneak away for a bit.
Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated from my fellow monger out there.

Saw letter to editor in Courant this week from lady on Whitmore St complaining bout drug sales an prostitutes on her St. Gave her address, She is near Maple Ave. I see possibilities. Went down Maple towards Shultas an there was a white 20s SW. Turned round just as two other cars stopped for her. First action here ive seen in years. Saw 2 onn New Britain Ave also. Alpha was closed.
Went to Ashley area. LEstopping cars again. Few of the regulars in the shadows.
Went back again tonight. Heavy LE in Dutch again. Very few girls.
Alpha closed. Saw heavy Latina at Maple an Shultas. She went up to New Britain Ave an was picked up.
Went to Ashley. 3 or 4 SW. Heavy LE. Saw 3 different cars pulled over on Garden , Huntington an Sargeant ST. All with single guys.
Left area quickly when i was eyeballed by LE.
This was all between 730 an 1000 both nights.
Thur Weth Ave 730. Alpha closed. No LE. Several SW. Spotted Melissa who lives in apt building next to CTown. She was one i posted about a month ago.Best BBBJTC on the street. GF experience. Off we went for an hour an a half. $20. 30yo, long ponytail, 5 ft. cute.

While passing by Alpha the other day it was still closed but I did see some action inside. By action i only mean people walking around inside. Could not tell if they were City Officials or employees but in any event no change yet or new phone message.
I was also strolling the sout end (Webster, NB Ave) area Wednesday. I think I saw the white SW you are referring to. Very thin and attractive. Would have picked her up immediately but thought that, from afar anyway, she may be too good to be true. Did not get a "hard" look at first pass by. Circled around and got "the " look. I knew at this point I had to try this one out. Came back for the pick up but she was gone. Some other monger beat me to the punch. If your out there....any report???

Been so frustrated with the Hartford seen lately had to take a ride to Waterbury to HK. As usual nice experience with Yung. What else is to say about HK that hasn't been said already. Not really GFE but good experience and serves the purpose.

Report - Monday Oct. 27th, 4 p.m. in the rain:
- nothing going on at Alpha, no cars parked in front, no lit-up sign, nothing
- no SWs on Wethersfield, Stonington or Norwich
- turned left (west) onto Wyllys and drove up the hill towards the South Green. Halfway up the hill on the left was a white Puerto Rican girl walking down the hill who waved at me, but she looked too druggy for my tastes.
- On the top of the hill, I turned right onto Main Street but only went about 50 feet because of traffic at the red light at the north end of the green. An attractive short light-skinned (light brown) Puerto Rican girl was standing on the porch of the building on the corner (north-east corner of Main and Wyllys) with some guy who was either her pimp or boyfriend (they were clearly together). She called out to me in a loud voice and was very obvious, then when I looked at her and smiled, she got off the steps and walked closer to my car and said "What's the matter? Today's not a good day?" to which I said sorry, maybe another time.
I assume that seeing the two ladies meant that no cops were nearby, but the second one was so obvious that I decided to just drive off. If I see this young lady again though, I'll try her out.

resturant owners, in fact they receive a lot of Hookers & John's
for customers. Been in resturants on Franklin many times and
have seen 6-10 hookers & Johns eating at one time.
If elections are coming, why hasn't the Alpha bust made the

Anyone hip to a place in Enfield that has providers? There's an Back-Room ad for a Holly in the Valley Advocate which services the Springfield/Northampton MA area. Call the number and the call back is a dude explaining about their place in Enfield w/ ladies. Decent price per hour, sounds intriguing but I've heard nada about anything in Enfield so I'm inquiring.

Looks like last MP in Hartford is closed for good. Alpha still shut. Im sure it has nothing to do with elections. Remember the place was supposed to be politicly connected. A certain bakery owner with lots of clout had a PC of the take. Some day we will find out the real story.

I don't think I know the answer to your trivia question, but it did spark a trip down memory lane for me and made think think of the old tokyo spa right in downtown. I used to work downtown and talk about lunchtime convenience!
Don't give up on Alpha or the Girls yet.
I know for a fact that people who work to close these places down have gotten a lot of information from these types of boards. Perhaps less detailed descriptions and more discretion is in order.
