As I read the Ripoff report threads, here and elsewhere, the majority of people falling for the deposit scam are overeager newbies who have not read the forums well. Sometimes a senior will slip up with someone they have seen before but these are rare. I suspect there is some unofficial social media telling women they should always get a deposit and should always ask 500 per hour. And, given the state of things right now, if a girl is hot enough she will likely get some level of takers - just not you or me.
