It's not your computer, it's the text auto-fix on the board. Since $$ is technically not accurate via the 'Rules of Writing', the forum generously fixes it for you to just 1 $. If you want it to be accurate, immediately after you post your report, you should go back and read through it, and edit it to correctly reflect what you're trying to say. Auto-fix only works on initial submissions, 'edit post' mode takes everything exactly as it's entered. If you don't have time to fix everything, just do what I do, and copy your entire post before you initially submit it, and after it's posted, edit it, paste over the text that it shows for you with your original text again, and then save the changes. In other areas on the site, it's in discussion about turning the feature off (which they should). Anyway, just wanted everyone that posts to know that it's not their eyes playing tricks or their minds going dim, it's just Auto-Fix run amok.
