Too far to walk if you stay at any of the hotels in Waikiki. Even Hilton Hawaiian is quite a distance away. Ala Moana hotel is in a prime spot location. Didn't really keep up with the change since my last few visits there were crap. Pagoda is also an option and much more central to the action, but to me, super ghetto. The OP mentioned he would be with others. He didn't mention dudes, so I assumed he was on a visit with family or friends and wanted an option that was legit / nice with nearby getaways.
