They'll get you to read the numbers off the back to them to "confirm" the amounts then they vanish because the number is all they need to get their $.

Luckily, they are mostly very easy to spot, even before you get to the point of texting / talking with them, just the text and format of the ads makes them pretty obvious.

Are you guyz talking about those prepaid credit cards? I mean with all the hidden fees those stupid things are scams in and of themselves. Thanks for taking the time to explain to an ol stale fart like myself. Also the numbers they want you to read the cvc code? That 3 number whatever it's called? Stosh. Out.

I am sure there are some legit providers that want deposits but there are more scammers out there so I would never (again) risk giving money up front.

I set up something a couple days ahead with girl I was seeing once every week or 2 for a few months. Text her on Sunday to meet early Tuesday evening. She wanted to meet that Sunday because she needed the money for a locksmith. After letting her know that I wouldn't have time before Tuesday she begged for money that day. Having been seeing her regularly, having somewhat of a connection and even having picked her up from her home I felt ok sending the money. Bad on me. I had never had a problem contacting and meeting with her until then. She stopped replying for a couple days and I was heated. She finally reached out and apologized. Saw her that Thursday for another great time (got every dollar's worth plus some) but I have been blowing her off since. She messed up a good thing.

They see you for money. If they have the money already they have no need to see you.

If you get it great but don't expect honesty and integrity from them.

That word we used while I was driving the big blue buses when scammers had acquired someone's card by pick pocketing or finding and using it. It came up as "hot card" or "hot listed" on our computers. I am so glad that you eventually got the mileage out of your money on that one and also understand why she had to be kicked to the curb. Maybe one day she will wake up and think "oh f**k I just nuked a steady customer who wasn't an a**h*le that would pay and not abuse me". Or maybe not. As far as the attitude goes absolutely no doubt agree completely. It's kinda tough because they baby this and honey and sweetie that with us, however they will always default to this space that they occupy when they are in that life. I know you guys are patient with me when I bring up that pro I knew, however again I always remember her and the temper she could default to. Now with me (not a trick BTW, tried to be a friend. Dumb me) as well as tricks she could come off so super sweet, understanding, intelligent and generally interested. However, if things weren't exactly her way when she wanted them she would default to a rage that really scared the living s**t out of me. I mean I was / am in a business of creative types and have seen all kinds of crazy at all money levels, however nothing even close to her rages! Eventually I distanced myself from her. Beyond a stalker I mean she was gone when she went into these rages! Sorry for the ramble. Thanks again bb!

You buying some form of prepaid card (gift card, steam card, or just a Visa / MC prepaid card), them asking for the numbers or to scratch the back and share those numbers. They can use those numbers to purchase or transfer the money / value without ever having the card in hand. They can't just walk into a store and steal 5 and use them as they get activated at the cash register when paying. So if you are paying, they are now active and live, so if you share the numbers with them they can immediately use them and you have no recourse.

The Steam card that they are referencing are for the Steam PC gaming service, they sell gift cards for Steam at most convenience store retailers.

Yea knew about the activation and all and actually had purchased a pre paid just to see what they were like prior to actually having a debit and cc. Way too many fees on those.
