My variation is to use an old fashioned dumb flip phone. Yes, they still sell them, ie, Tracfone pay as you go, no monthly fees. While you're still hitting the phone towers for connections, there is slightly less tracking vs a smartphone. Further, don't surf the web. That adds even more tracking to trace your location.

To some, this all might be overkill but it depends on how much you have to lose in your real life. Know when to fold to abandon a bad date as they have nothing to lose. You do!
