The default is track web history and yeah - its disabled now. Unfortunately I left it open at home and was fucking around at work......anyway you live and learn. just sharing in case someone else were to fall into this trap

It sounds to me like you have your settings to stay logged in and forgot to sign out before you closed the web browser. :)
When you signed up for GMail you could have opted out of web search history. If you leave the check mark in enabling web search history it will keep the info.
There's a cure for your problem. You have to be logged into your Google/GMail account for this to work.
Go to your account dashboard:

That page tells you everything about your account and the settings.
Scroll down and look for "Web History." Mine says: Web History: Disabled

What you need to do is disable the web history and clear out the history.
Then no one sees anything in your web history - not even you.
