It is a lousy job, but they make good money. I have been to Korea 30 times and I speak the language (somewhat) so I strike up a conversation with them (in Korea and in the US) and find out what city or part of Korea they come from and ask about their family. Many come from middle class families. I don't try to ask why they do this because it will just spoil the mood. However, when I have tried to do this, many of them say it's the money and some don't want to talk about the topic. I have also seen hobbyists in Korea (during the day, they are accountants, teachers, etc.) that do this for the money (I went out with some of them). They are very nice, educated and polite. I am sure that this is a small minority, because I having a hard time finding them.

The bottom line is that these girls probably have very divers backgrounds some are in it for the money and some because they have to do it. There were also stories in Korean news papers that girls that have large credit card debt pay or are forced to pay by working in some of these parlors.

As for us mongers, I completely agree with your opinion.

Thanks for the intel. I know 1413 was having problems retaining girls due to lack of customers, but thanks to your information, hopefully girls like Misha will be able to stay a long, long time. And if she's able to make money, other top-shelf girls will hear about it and start coming back to DC for their share. Saw an add in City Paper for Brazilian/Argentina. They were close to DuPont circle station, so I thought I'd go for the lunch try. .75/hr. There were five that went to tial not six. All five were found guilty by a jury. But the judge was very unhappy with the feds case because they tried to distort the facts. At the end of the trial, the judge said he was not going to sentence these five like the ones who had plead guilty, meaning it would be less than 10 months. (the average sentence was 10 months for those who plead guilty.)

If you caught the Sunday article in the post a few months back it was very interesting about the whole human traffic issue. These non profits like the Polaris Group were suppling the feds with info based on info from the internet They were being given huge grants and all they did was surf the net looking for bogus info on human trafficing.

The prosecution looked really stupid because they actually believed these girls were being forced to work. Everyone of them said they could leave anytime they wanted.

The ironic part was that this all occured in the manhattan district of NY.

Thanks for that update. I think many of us believed that the charges would be dropped, but not so, I guess and some pretty stiff (no pun intended) sentences. Wow! All-in-all, not many were arrested. I wonder if some were just hauled in and deported, or did some of the girls at the places that were raided just get released?
