One place I used to go to as run by an ex-cop and the women would put a towel or their clothes over where the camera was when they wanted to break the rules.

If the camera is passive only, that is, it emits no light wavelengths of its own, then it will be undetectable. Unless it is wireless, in which case the app might be able to detect the radio signal the camera is sending to its receiver.
