I can't see an upside to it, and the downside is getting tempted by curiosity like you describe.

However, this is just from a search from someone you haven't been in contact with. It prevents the overseas pic sellers / scammers from finding you. If I have ever been to a girls profile, she can see my profile after that. Like you, I don't want to be bothered (much) when I don't have a paid membership, so I typically deactivate.

You say you know her through work and FB and she has mentioned on FB that she thinks about you often. And you've been having text conversations about getting together SB style. What more are you waiting on? What makes you think she doesn't recognize you from your photos? Why does it matter? She's into the idea w / o knowing its you (so you think) and she's into you otherwise so what's the issue?
