Re: Postin an E-mail address on site like this...
While I'm not the most computer savy guy out there I'm pretty sure posting your E-mail address on a site like this is not the best thing to do. If I send you an E-mail then you know mine. Makes me a little nervous. I wonder how many responses you got via E-mail and if anything could ever be done with that information if it fell into the wrong hands. I'm not saying LE uses this board to hunt down individual mongers but you know they are out there.
Hi HowRich,
I’ll be honest with you. I received absolutely no response to my question. But I don’t think that the reason for not receiving any responses was the one you thinking of. I really think that the reason why no one responded was because I am new to the board, and people don’t know me. Unfortunately, I can’t fix that problem in this short period of time that I will be here on the island. Trust is earned over longer time than what I have. Besides, I am not a big player here. I do it occasionally for recreational purposes, and as I said before, I am not a loyal customer to any of those places. Do you honestly think I would post in here my regular E-mail address provided by my ISP containing my real name and home address, and do you really think my name is Mravcapo69?? I hope none of you mongers out there are that crazy. Setting up a Yahoo or Google, or whatever free mail service you want to use, mail account is as easy as 123 and it takes about 10 seconds, ok maybe 15 if you type reallllllyyyyyyy slooooowwww or you are still using dialup to access the internet. It asks you to provide a name, but has no way of checking if that’s you or not. It is free so you don’t need to provide credit card or any other personal information. I usually pick a common name. John Smith works just fine. I have more than one mail account that I use for different purposes, and I don’t care in who’s hands my account information would fall, there is nothing that would give away my identity. Since it is a web based mail account, I don’t have to be at my computer to check my messages. I do it from work, from home, from Starbucks, from public library, from computer stores that have live internet connections, from internet café places, etc. So if I would send you an E-mail from that account, if you are using your only E-mail address provided by your ISP, than yes I would have your name and whatever else it would come with it. But if you get an E-mail from me, and if you can figure out which John Smith am I, please give me a call, and we’ll get together and exchange some info in person. I truly hope none of you fellow mongers use your one and only E-mail account to sign up in here or any other sites related to this hobby. I am sure you cover you tracks well on all other bases, so don’t slip up and leave this one wide open. Get yourself a general E-mail account to use without any of your personal info. HowRich, I hope this answers your question.
