Obviously you understand the need for discretion & being under the radar.
So here's my best 2 suggestions based on experience.
1) Even if it's out of the way for the room you're headed to, try and use another entrance.
Many places have locks that don't always work on alternate doors, or sometimes no lock at all.
That could keep the front desk eyeballs off of you.
2) If you have to stroll by reception / check in desk to get inside, then "act like you belong there & already are a valued guest with a room".
Confidence will say alot to the fact that you belong there.
There's no way that any desk clerk or even Mgr, can know all the current guests.
If eye contact's made be friendly.
"Hi, how ya doing?" for example will keep any conversation under your charge.
After all- your visiting friend or family, just called you and said come over.

1. Look for a side door, if locked have her come down and let you in.
