On April 9, 2018, the United States government shut down the Backpage website. The owners had been cooperating with law enforcement for years but were still shutdown and placed under arrest. One of them killed himself and the other was sentenced to five years in Federal prison. The government spent millions of dollars in this case and got a handful of convictions and less than a hundred thousand dollars in fines. At the same time cartels in Mexico were operating sex trafficking and kidnapping rings with impunity all over North America. As all mongers are aware numerous websites have replaced Backpage and today perform exactly the same function. The government is playing whack-a-mole with enforcement and will never put a stop to the world's oldest profession.
