The city itself, at one time (and possibly now) was a participant in a State / Federal program called "Weed and Seed".
It is my understanding that some of the SW areas (ironically near the jail) and AMPs were in the cross hairs at one time.
Given that the is still Greek and Italian mob in the area, continued funding would seem likely.
With respect to Stark county, given some of the questionable ads one finds, it wouldn't be surprising if an end of year effort was underway. It'd up the stats for the year and probably be useful to politicians in the next election.

I think the "sex trafficking" angle is just sensationalism for clicks and eyeballs.

The change happened 3 or 4 years ago. Men are evil.

Misdemeanor.[/QUOTE]For a news report they take the sex trafficking angle for clicks. A deal between a prostitute and a customer has no good guy, only 2 criminals. A women being a sex trafficking victim and a sex preditor has a good guy and a bad guy. This follows basic story telling rules so they slant the story that way. News isn't about telling facts any more it's about telling a story and getting ratings.

That interpretation came from the Obama Justice Department in 2014. It has taken time for local municipalities to follow suit.

The police will charge what they think fits. The prosecutor will adjust that as necessary. If they can't prove trafficking, they won't charge trafficking.

Obama broadened the term trafficking likening it to modern day slavery. The Attorney General then pushed to have soliciting prostitutes reclassified as trafficing and to classify prostitutes as crime victims not criminals. The thought process for this started in Chicago, Cook County. It all fits with the "Men are evil" alt. Left mindset. It's not an easy Google because it's tough to narrow down the results. I know what I remember and the discussion on this and other boards at the time. Whether or not the trafficking charge sticks is irrelevant. It's a felony charge. You don't write a check and it goes away. Just ask the guys charged in the article.
