Also used my burner so I just played along some more. It's just an intimidation tactic to try to get you to send them money.

But I would probably just say it's OK to cancel and let's reschedule. I believe the real problem is not so much that someone may believe you are lying, it's that so many others have abused that excuse to cancel for what ever reason.
