If you text them or email them and get a very fast response (within a minute), that usually raises some doubt. If their initial email is overly suggestive, take it as another sign.

If I still believe there's a chance it's real, reply with a simple question (what's your general location) . . in all cases, thus far, I get a reply that doesn't even acknowledge my simple question.
