TAMPA - Hillsborough County investigators are spending two days trying to round up hundreds of people sought on warrants.
Operation Summer Slam began at 5 a.m. today and involves Tampa and Temple Terrace police and Hillsborough sheriff's deputies. The operation wraps up at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Thirty-nine arrests of people with felony or misdemeanor warrants were made during today's roundup. It begins again Wednesday morning.
The warrants run the gamut from driving with a suspended license to murder, Tampa police Lt. Charles Courtoy said.
The multi-faceted operation also includes heightened patrols in high-crime areas and traffic enforcement.
"School is about to let out, and historically summer has been an uptick in crime," Courtoy said. "We're trying to get ahead of the curve."
Jack Sherrock, 42, of Tampa, was among today's arrestees. He had been sought on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; police said he tried running over a woman with a moped on Sunday.
While being handcuffed, Sherrock said he felt the roundup by police was "all right – getting everybody off the street, doing their job."

TAMPA - A home invasion was thwarted this afternoon by Tampa police officers working a separate criminal operation in the neighborhood, officials said.
As officers worked Operation Summer Slam around the 3700 block of Idlewild Avenue, four men entered a home on the street at around 1:30 p.m.
They shot Buttercup, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, in the right rear leg.
Police officers Robbie McKendree and Vince Leto saw the four suspects running from the home and chased them. They caught two, but the other two got away.
Police continued to investigate in the area, and the last two suspects were caught in the back yard of a home on Powhattan Avenue, police said.
Police arrested Marcus Burton, 20, Maurice Benjamin, 19, Ronnie Savage Jr., 20, and Echeva Stone, 24, all of Tampa. Charges for the four suspects are pending, police said.
They were found with a 12-gauge shotgun, .357 caliber revolver and a .45 caliber semi-automatic, police said.
Operation Summer Slam started Tuesday morning and will end at 11 p.m. tonight. Tampa police, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Temple Terrace police are working the multifaceted operation, which includes heightened patrols in high-crime areas and traffic enforcement.
The operation has also targeted rounding up people with felony or misdemeanor warrants. The warrants run the gamut from driving with a suspended license to murder.

Ahhh! Carrie... that sweet heart is one of my all time favs!
HSCO has been screwing around with their site, probably to minimize data scraping. Instead of a geek message saying that you can't use that URL, you get cop language that sounds a lot more intimidating than it probably should. Try the booking number: 10026943.
HCSO web site says

Damn! Bevis says: "Are you threatening me?"
I just love cop speak... "Don't bow up on me boy!" is my personal favorite! "STOP resisting!" is another.

Is this CeCe? If it is she has lost weight. I was too slow to make the pick-up today. Perhaps next time I will have better skills.
Vice is watching, stay safe.
