It DID require some investment of time and money and the development of trust -- and in all instances, YMMV -- Perhaps that's what they're still "banking on" (so to speak).

Just walk in. When they ask if you have been there before, tell them this: I have never been here but I have been to plenty of other massage places. Or just tell them the truth.
