Depending on if you've chatted much with them or not, put on your mentoring hat and give them advice on how to survive. You should seek out Michael Osterholm for much authoritative information about transmission. It infects lung cells only, so vapor / breath is the best way to get it. Social distance is far more important than surface cleaning in my view (but I still wear gloves to open my mail). Regardless, no contact w / a SB is possible unless they have gotten over an infection and you have too. It appears that those who recover have immunity to new infections, but no promises on that.

The issue is not where it infects (lungs); it is how it gets there. The most reliable vector turns out to be our hands from items we touch because we instinctively touch our faces up to 6 X an hour, with some people even more.

Therefore, the most effective vector path is: 1) touch surface with viral particles, 2) touch face near mouth, eyes or nose where there is mucus lining with direct access to inside body, 3) it enters the body and then 4) infects the lungs. There is no need for a direct pathway, such as breathing it in, to the lungs. Once inside part of body, it migrates to where it can infect.

This is why gloves are effective. With gloves on, we change behavior and instinctively do not touch our faces, thereby shutting own the most direct vector path. Sans gloves, the next best thing is to disinfect commonly touched surfaces often.

Yes, breathing the air of a person with it is another way to infect, but all signs point to the viral load using that vector path is less efficient than direct touching of face with hands which have viral particles on them.

The entire reason for social distancing is stay away from people who may be shedding particles which are airborne for some distance and then settles on a surface or you can also breath in.

Notice that social distancing is not some rule of stay 6 feet away from people - it is stay away from people altogether and stay home. The result being no common surfaces are touched.

The main issue with living in air and water vapor droplets is more a problem that particles travel around and settle on many surfaces and lives a good amount of time. Then we touch the surface and our face.
