I'm largely operating like you are. Communication skills are every bit as important to me as copulation skills. My experience over many years has shown that poor communications up front (unreturned or late emails, calls, texts, etc.) are usually predictors of poor attitude which translates into poor performance in bed. This is why I prefer older ladies. Maturity seems to breed a greater understanding of this.
