Depending on the definition of liberal, MA is not liberal. The culture and government here is strict and traditional. From the restrictions (pre COVID) on live music in venues, late night laws, outdoor seating with stupid restrictions, and list goes on and on. I've seen ladies in downtown Cincinnati and Cleveland hotels without much problem but those are much cheaper cities than Boston or DC.
