Well TexTim. I'm sure that was a rhetorical question but I couldn't resist. 8 songs on the 8-Track versus 4 speakers in your 4-Channel (quadraphonic) stereo. Now I was just a tot in the 70's but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Sorry to all for the brief lapse of off-topicness. Now back to work, all of you!
Did not mean to stump the panel. Thanks for those who are from the seventies as I am and explained my meaning. Now can anyone finally explain why my 8-track only has 4 channels?
1. A 4-Track has only two programs,"Program 1", and "Program 2", and must be switched manually between programs.
2. An 8-Track has four programs, which would "program select" automatically when a metallic sensing strip contacts a switch next to the capstan. There was also a manual selector for purposes of changing programs.
3. 4-Track players sometimes had a fast forward option, which often tore the tape.
4. Each program has two tracks, a left channel and an right channel, to allow for stereo; more advanced 8-Track models had additional channel separation / discrimination capabilities used to process the more advanced quadrophonic stereo signals.
5. Barry Manilow sucked just as bad in both formats.
6. I wish that it was the 1970's again, and that I could lose my virginity another five times during the summer of 1978.
7. You had to jam a matchbook under both cartridges to stabilize them during rough rides.
8. Ralph "S", custom recorded radio programs which sounded like WIFI-92 on 8-Tracks, and after a certain predetermined queue (usually another song),"Go All The Way" by the Raspberries would magically come on. He was responsible for the deflowering of more people than any single human in world history.
I miss those days.

I see we now have digressed into a discussion of audio systems of the past, instead of pussy-hunting. Gentlemen, please! (Although recounting the stuff we did in our youth can be very funny. That was back when we were all young and stupid. I'll have you know that we're NOT that young anymore!)

I'm here at the Copa with Mandy who just waved me over. I thought she was tryin to get the feelin, like she usually does after a long show. Nope. This one's for you, she said, pointing to your post on the computer screen. Even now I can't tell you how devastated I felt when I read it. C'mon, Tonsil Hockey, I know you're just one voice out there but I'd like to get you back as a fan somewhere down the road. And poor Mandy can't smile without you. You're making our lives miserable, man.
Maybe we could spend a weekend in New England. You could watch the ships while I write the songs. Maybe something would click:
You: Man, I'm ready to take a chance again.
Me: Even now?
You: Yeah man, looks like we made it!
Me: Wow. Could it be magic?
Let's hang on. Have your girl call my girl,

Ok so I was advised to start my research on the hobby by reading the "22 rules for street mongering" and everyone's old post for information. Why I seriously thought that there would be a beginner's FAQ shows you how much of a noob I really am.
But I thought of something first. Is it even remotely wise and / or safe to "date" without a car? I can see the clear advantages (mobility, convenience, protection if used correctly) And I'm in a really sucky neighborhood so while I could probably find a SW without a problem, I'm lonely-ish (almost everything else you could think of to make one consider the hobby) but not that suicidal. Plus if the answer is no, I suppose I could go the strip club route.

Yeah, go ahead and walk the stroll! Give up your power and protection to the streets. Head into some girl's crib or unknown spot she suggests. No problem there. Drug using girls are always Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent!
It seems like your desperate state has you looking for short cuts and nothing will stop you. After all what does the collective knowledge of this site really know? ;) The heck with those stupid 22 Rules! Yeah, go for it! Dive in! You don't need no stinkin' education!
Er..... Go rub one out, or two. My advice, again fwiw. Think with the BIG head before allowing the little one to steer you into the School of Hard Knocks.
BTW, there was some discussion on one of the Philly threads, in the last year or so, about mongering from a taxi-cab. Quite a lively discussion, if I recall. Bottom line was a control issue: give that control to a cabbie that might be as bad as giving it over to the streets as well. Also recall that the perspective of "on foot" mongering was also discussed. So no need to read the thread - what possibly could be there?
Look, we get a lot of noobies showing up TAKING. Asking for advice on one girl or another or asking questions and then never giving anything back. While I think most would be willing to be helpful, perhaps one needs to demonstrate something first? Nothing wrong with being new. Everyone starts there, but goodness, ain't nobody gunna tell you to avoid the 22 Rules.....
That is unless I'm wasting my time here. Is there something frying in the pan next to the sunny-side eggs?

I mean I'd rather ask stupid questions on the internet than go out and try to learn the hard way. Knowing myself, there is a chance that I'll never even get close to approaching anyone for a "date" I just stumbled onto all this information (the website / forums) and well being "young" I'm anxious maybe? And since I had an obvious (yet I still asked the question) feeling someone would say what you said, I'll stick to the strip club reports.

My bad. You are right. Asking questions is fine and a good way to learn.
Good that one is thinking with the big head. That should serve you well!
Look, what I can tell from your posts is that there is some level of doubt and perhaps a bit of fear. All of that is normal and it becomes part of a mongers internal "radar" that he uses to stay out of trouble. I am sure others can tell stories about ignoring that radar and the consequences.
But what I do know from experience is that one needs to be able to hide or mask any fear, doubts or apprehension. The girls on the street can smell that a mile a way. Now while not all will act on it, many will eat you alive if they smell the fear.
So recognizing one's limitations is good. Nothing wrong with being young or new. Good to see you decided to take it slow. That makes a lot of sense. Wait until one is a bit more comfortable with the streets before wandering out there. Good idea. I have "forced it" in this hobby in the past, or gone places outside the comfort level and that often lead to trouble. So good for you.
Perhaps as one gains experience and has time to follow the SW threads, one will build confidence to wonder into that arena? Good luck!
Does there seem to be an extreme lack of talent out on the K these days. The other day I was looking at some of the past lists compiled in the forums and there just doesn't seem to be anything talent wise like that out there now. I have always been very selective, my rule of thumb being, if she doesn't look good enough to be seen in a restaurant with (I. E. On a date) then she doesn't come back to my place, but I could almost always find a diamond in the rough. However, for the last couple months there just seems to be an extreme lack of talent. I mean, did the heroin supply dry up? Has the scene been moved? Is it just me, am I driving through at the wrong time (usually early evenings around 7 ish) , anyone with any thought? Anyone? Beuller?

Wow that's kind of a harsh response. I got into this 'hobby' back in 90, 91 I was in my early 20's and fresh out of the Marines, had no fears, no website like this and I will admit now that I look back no brains. I think back on the abandon blds, houses, and parks that I let SW's take me too I'm lucky to still be alive, But I will say this Philly is a different jungle now. The 'game' is pretty much the same but the rules and the arena have drastically changed.
My advice to you is you need to practice and build confidence. To this day I park and use the 'boots on the ground' method. To me it just feels safer then pulling over and picking up from a car with a license plate tied to your name and address. Now having said that these days I would not park on or near the Ave (or any hot spot in philly for that matter) AFTER DARK.
A / C is a great place to get your feet wet and to learn and hone your skills. The strip in AC is relatively safe at any time of night due to the amount people and traffic that is always there. It is here where you can learn to develop your 'monger senses', learn the do's and don'ts and feel out what your approach and limits are going to be and if you want to pursue this hobby / addiction.
Yes I said addiction, for a good part of the 90's mongering was a weekly thing for me, there were nights that I would blow a tank of gas going from one local to another to find what I wanted. Now 20 some years later I still have those urges, I have a slit cut in the carpet of my car and every greenback I can hide away goes there to I build up enough to take off work and go on a hunt.
Take it slow, take your time, and think before every move, above all safety first!
Wow that's kind of a harsh response.
Apparently you missed the part where I back tracked on those comments? Problem is I was using sarcastic humour. The comments we IMHO WAY over the top so I figured it would be obvious. However, I recognize that humour can be personal and not everyone is going to see things in the same light. Sorry if I offended. Not what I was doing.

The streets are no place to "jump into" just on a whim to learn. Learn from others. Read the threads, take some time, get yer feet wet slowly. I think we agree on that approach.
Thanks for sharing your approach and advice. There is no one right answer and perhaps your advice is better suited to readers here?
Good luck with those urges. Happy hunting!
I have attempted many visits as of late and it just seems like I am missing seeing the girls if they are there. I have seen a large number of girls sleeping in an upright posture but thats not my thing. I was on the K Thursday and it seemed like LW was everywhere. I have been relying on BP but that gets expensive.

Claims she does not do dope / crack and just does it for her 6 month old twin daughters. I find it a little hard to believe because her body was so tight but she showed me a sccar she claims was a see-section. Quote 45 for CBJ which I find very high for a SW. Worked out a deal based on time ad took her back to my place. But halfway in started complaing about how the "guy she is in a realtionship with" (her words) will beat her for being away so long. So she has a pimp. She cut out out an hour early. It is a shame because she was really cute but can't deal with the girls that play games and I try to stay away from the girls with pimps. I share some blme by paying her in full half way through our date. Probably wil see her again if the opportunity arises but will have to pay at the end to avoid a repeat.
I don't post as much as I should on here but I just talked to my friend. She said they are locking girls up left and right down there. So just be careful if you're out and about.

I figured that things might be better at night, and I'm only around during the day, but if old Uncle LEO has been especially active I can understand. Remember, there IS an election coming up, and there's probably more than one candidate promising to "Clean Our Streets of Illicit Activity!" (when he isn't getting HIS share of it, of course.)
I cruised a bit on Sunday afternnon. I did not make any stops. I did see alot of action down Somerset and I think it was Huntingdon station. I do not go down there much. I did see a beautiful redhead just before Glennwood past the 7-11. I did not stop to much LEo activity on the block. IE: street was blocked. She had on a green shirt and jeff cap and heels. Did anyone possibly see her today? I was to nervous to stop as I don't do this often.
On my first visit to the K, met a nice skinny 30something girl named Lisa. I was so lost I could not even tell you where.
Had a quick car date CBJ while I fingered her pussy, which left my fingers smelling nice. .30.
Told her it was my first time on the K and she gave me some friendly advice: You have a headlight out and that's asking for trouble. And don't drop off where you pick up.
. You have a headlight out and that's asking for trouble. And don't drop off where you pick up.
Why?
[fillerbsdontreadwantsmorecharacters]
Why?
[fillerbsdontreadwantsmorecharacters]
Because LE likes a legit reason to pull you over and ask you questions.
Why?
As far as headlights being out-this has been written about many times on this site-LE will stop you if they happen to pass by and notice a bad bulb.
They will bust your balls and give a ticket-which can be vacated once you prove to the Court that the violation was remedied.
This will cost you a lot of time and aggravation-there is nothing as fucked up as Traffic Court at 8th and Spring Garden-been there, done that.
As far as not dropping off where you picked some one up-think about it:
If someone in the area happened to notice "the pickup" in any way (such as the girl or your car), - it would add to the problem if they also noticed the same car dropping off the same girl.
Someone might be able to make a case for patronizing a prostitute off of those observations.
I have my own rules-when I drop a girl off-it is never on the K-always on a side or back street that is a "safe" distance from the Avenue.

I was on Avenue Saturday afternoon. There were almost no SW's on avenue. I met one woman named Jamine, maybe 30 years old on kensington and Tioga. Agreed for BBBJ for. 40. We went to her apartment. She rushed and finished with a HJ. It was very disappointing. I would not repeat.
I was asked to post this by an SW friend of mine to warn other girls. She was held against her will for about 16 hours by a guy who picked her up in a Black Silverado. He was in his 50's, very short gray hair, bald or near bald on top and on the husky side. She agreed to an hour date at his place in NJ which he claimed was right over the bridge. Turned out it was closer to a 45 min ride. SHe told me she was getting nervous when he kept asking her if she knew where she was. While showewring he stole her phone and close and told her she was staying the night. He was very rough and hurt her throughout the night and next morning. These girls are at high risk anytime they get in a car. If they have warrants they really can't scream for help or run out of an apartment naked. I am assuming the truck had jersey tags.
These girls are doing this because of their addiction, they don't like it. We are fortunate enough to take advantage of the situation but most of of treat them with respect. Guys like this should pay consequences. It makes mongering harder for us. What he did was premediitaded and I doubt she was the first or will be the last. The girls should work together. A license plate would help in this situation or something worse.
JerryGarcia and Horst2, thanks for the explanation, mates. I'm sure these were basic questions, but having never partaken of this particular way to hobby, I'm quite unaware even of fundamentals. Makes good sense, thanks.

Hey, the fact that we pursue this hobby means that none of us are choir boys, but I know that every one of these girls is somebody's daughter, and deserves to be accorded proper human respect. I always try to be decent, am NEVER in any way abusive, and seek to find those who maintain enough sense about them to value one's offer of friendship.
Holding a girl against her will like that is generally the first step in a sequence of behavior that rarely ends well, and reflects negatively on every one of us.

I parked on Cumberland last night around 8:30ish. Got a haircut from the $5 spot. I figured I'd take a walk, made a right on Huntington. First vehicle on the corner was my uncle Leo sitting there in his black Ford Explorer with his buddy. He is a great guy, I know he's among us. They looked me dead in my face so I gave them the nod and kept it moving. I walked down about two blocks and came around. I was still a little shook so I figured I'm getting the hell otta here. Back up toward K to my car I strolled. When I got to my car my uncle and his buddy was sitting directly behind my car, probably wanted to make sure I got back to my car safely. If I had come back to my car with a broad like I do on occasion he probably would have sent me on a short vacation. I am still shook. I just can't go through all of the BS for a dirty BJ. Spending the night in the slammer, ruining my business because I am not around to run it. Having my brother come get me again. I'm thinking of turning to the dancers when I want to be naughty. The crap aint worth it when I look at the big picture. Guys please send me a few numbers. I really like the broads that haven't been down long, as most of us do. I would appriciate it. BE CAREFUL!

$$ Did you know true working girls don't do hard drugs? Philly woudl have you believe all pro's do drugs, you= so untrue just take a trip to the west coast.
This is the second time in the past two months I google searched a name and found an obituary. I assume it was drug related. It seems like those a* holes that want to steal your wallet and all kind of other under handed s*t stay out there for ever but the ones that are still decent human beings regardless to the life style they live are taken away. Maybe it's gods way of saying "your too nice for this, I'm bringing you home"

Was on the stroll Thursday afternoon, not much LE, not much talent either. Saw a couple of old timers that have seen better days, saw a couple of newbies but they where nodding and had the shakes. Just went home for dinner.
Just out of sheer curiosity, has anyone ever hung around Center City around 12:30-2am? Depending on how lucky I get with something, I may have a job working night shift soon. I mean if you've read my post, you know I'm completely new. (Hence the name True Noob) I thought I'd start by just testing the 22 rules, by walking around seeing if I can I'd possible SWs and / or watch the stroll. I do not have any plans to attempt to solicit anything, I'm just really interested.
Also if I may, what got everyone else interested in "the hobby"? For me, it's because in all likelihood a normal relationship is not likely, but thankfully humans have developed alternative methods of relationships for the less fortunate.

Just like Forest said "Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you'll get"
