Saw the ad and the full body massage attracted me; plus it's close to home.

Come on now! First I get an e-mail informing me that I can no longer send Christmas cards to public employees to avoid the appearance of impropriety (yeah, greecing someone's hand with $3-worth picture of Santa Claus is sure to earn me some seriously special treatment in the future) and now this.

I think equating common cold sore to herpes cheapens the whole concept of herpes, which usually means "genital herpes" which is a serious life-changing disease. Damn, what kind of world are we living in when people are scared of getting a cold sore on their lip?!

I mean I have a cold sore right now. So what? True, it's a pain in the ass (I mean on the lip), it takes some time to go away, and I'm not going to go and see any providers until it's gone (probably in a week or so) but it's not something that I'm really worried about. Now, genital herpes I'm worried about but the two are really have very little affect on one another.

Keeping in mind that I've never had a cold sore in my life (that I know of), if I came home tomorrow with that thing on my lip I'd be in a world of shit. I'd have much explaining to do. I'm also pretty certain the discussion that followed would lead to some sort of life changing event. LOL. Believe me, if I saw a provider with that scab on her lip, I'm not even going for a CBJ. It could come from kissing but it hardly ever happens this way. 90% of the time it starts up when some dormant virus inside your lip for some reason decides to activate itself. If you get it once-twice / year it usually is fine, if more chances are there is something wrong with your immune system.

There are 2 types of herpes simplex. Type 1 most commonly causes cold sores but can also cause genital herpes. Type 2 is the usual cause of genital herpes, but it also can infect the mouth. They are closely related. While type 1 may not be categorized as an STD, it can be transmitted via oral-genital sex.

Well, since I have never had any type of cold sore and have known my sig other for quite some time... if I came home with that it would only arouse suspicion. I know that it is likely that I have the hsv-1 virus and just have never had symptoms. However, there is a chance that I do not have it and to have my first outbreak at this point would most likely mean I'm up to something. From what I understand, it is most commonly transmitted thru saliva. You say it doesn't normally happen that way (kissing), but I disagree.

Also, HSV-2 can be transmitted to the mouth and each year there are more cases of this happening. Some studies have shown that up to 20% of all new cold sore outbreaks on the mouth may be HSV-2 (genital type). HSV-2 on the lips / mouth is more prevalent now than before since oral sex is much more common now among young people. (Don't ask me to give a reference here, I read that somewhere recently).

I don't know how much my sig other knows about HSV-1 and HSV-2, but it's not a conversation I wish to have especially since I have never had an outbreak before. I think that is the major key: I've never had symptoms before, ever. There is a high chance that if I ever get my first cold sore outbreak at this stage of my life, it's not going to be from sharing someone's water bottle.

Even if I'm wrong about this, it's all about the perception from the point of view of the woman.

So after doing this for almost 50 years this is my observation between BP and CL. I have had much better experiences with CL. I have found that the majority of CL girls are young mothers or students just trying to make ends meet.
