Patrol will not follow you very far. I'd say less than a block or two. Their mindset is an arrest numbers game plus they're not in stealth mode driving a conspicuous B&W car. They will jam you quickly as they can after you pick up the *****.

Their hope is that they'll catch both of you dirty and reduce the chances of either one of you trying to set a story or dispose of contraband. Patrol will hit you pretty quick.

Vice on the other hand may follow you for quite some distance. When I worked vice, we would do the lewdsters which is follow a john after he picked up a ***** and conduct surveillance. Following cars is not easy since vice often do not have the resources of a 4 or 5 car surveillance team.

Usually it'll be one car trying to follow you and if you have some wits about you, you should be able to spot the same car following you, making the same turns with you, etc. They'll wait for you to land and settle in with your girl and then surprise your ass while you're getting your dick sucked.

I'm not sure it's a good idea trying to trip too far with a girl. My experience has been that the girls are cautious of crazy johns and aren't nuts about going on a road trip outside of their comfort zone.

This is the reason why I always drive a good distance on empty streets. This way it makes it hard for the cops to follow you. Try and find a area where you can exit in only one direction. This way you reduce the possibility of traffic and the cops driving through.

I don't doubt that a pair of over diligent vice cops may follow a john with his ***** for 10 miles as described in the reply. I think that is not the norm. Tyler D could have been tailed by a string of LE surveillance units. I don't know Tyler D's background but I'll throw out the possibilities----narcotics team, workman's comp team, LAPD's organized crime/vice team (handles organized pimping/pandering/647b/gambling rings), insurance fraud investigators, SSU Parole unit (surveillance team that specifically targets parolees). The possibilities go on.

He may have been surveiled the whole day and only noticed them when he picked up the hooker because that's when his "spider sense" is on higher alert. It could've been vice, but having been a vice cop, we would not waste the time to follow anyone for 10 miles because nothing could be gained out of it for a simple misdemeanor arrest.

Now as for the "failing to yield". I do not encourage this for anyone to do. I am merely bringing this fact out so you can make your own informed decision. If I had a lot to lose, I might consider it, but that's me.

Each police agency has its own pursuit policy. Departments have full legal teams constantly researching pursuits and use of force because this is an area where they get hit deep in the pocket books. The tendency has been for most agencies to limit or prohibit a pursuit unless there is a clear, present, explicable, exigent danger to the public if the suspect is not pursued.

Hence, joy-riders, stolen cars, people running from infractions---it's slowly becoming a part of the past. Officers are trained to activate their emergency lights/ sirens and chase you for a short distance so they can later articulate you clearly saw them and were failing to yield. They will broadcast they are in pursuit of a prostitution suspect at which time a supervisor will 99% of the time order the officer to cease the pursuit.

They document the subject's license plate, vehicle description and driver description and let the infraction/misdemeanor suspect escape. They later pull up DMV photos and registration printouts on the car, do a few follow ups, show the photo to the witness officer and then they present it to the DA's office for felony evading.

The challenge is for any cop to honestly admit to themselves that they actually saw your face that night. There's a good chance, the cop will lie by merely associating the DMV printout of the vehicle's LO/RO (legal owner, registered owner) with the corresponding license plate soundex photo (your DMV photo). The cop will look at the 2 and figure in his head that it's gotta be you. He then says, "Yup, that was him alright. I saw him clear as day at 11pm in that dark street with no lights from 100 yards away. Yup, I could smell the Jack and the box tacos on his breath--I swear. "

Remember to never give statements to any affect if they do contact you personally. If you are compelled to say something, limit it to something like you have a "village car" and that you rent the car out to work associates from time to time. If they ask you who your associates are, demand if you are under arrest and if they have an arrest warrant. Tell them you have no further statements and you have no idea what this is all about and you'd like them to get you an attorney.

Never give them consent to search your car or home. Never! If they have a search warrant, you can't do anything about it. But never ever let these guys do a consent search. If they bully their way in and try to bamboozle you into a "pirate search", you tell them that what they are doing is illegal and you have a DVR in the house recording and documenting. Usually that will scuttle them out. This part will come later in the training bulletins.

On Olympic just one block of Alvarado I spotted 3 or 4 SW in front of a motel waiving a taxi. When I made my turn they were gone. This was like 2 or 3 months ago.

Each LAPD division has its own vice unit. Based upon the stats of the division, they may concentrate on prostitution, gambling, alcohol beverage control enforcement, municipal code crap (smoking in bars, restaurants), arresting pirate DVD vendors, citing street vendors, stings on liquor stores selling booze/cigarettes to minors and sometimes small time street drugs. Basically, they are a huge waste of tax payer money.

The vice units are slaves to the area Captain's whim. The Captain has to answer to a board pertaining to comp stat. Comp stat is some crap Billy Bratton brought from New York PD. It's another waste of tax payer's money where some high paid egg-head officer on light duty puts together stats from the division (traffic, shootings, part I/II crimes, gangs, etc). The captain must explain why crime is up or down in his division.

The easiest way to bump numbers up in the captain's favor is to use the vice unit. Vice wear's many hats and it's a local undercover team in the captain's pocket. He therefore uses them to pad statistics along with patrol and general detectives.

Lately, the captains are really pushing the craigslist stings and also busting girls on craigslist...the latter being more common. They do the stings to see if they can ensnare sex registrants because that's a huge added bonus for the captain's promotional sleeve.

I hate management, the captain, lieutenants and sergeants. They are the biggest waste of human flotsam---high on themselves and low in self-esteem. A lot of these buffoons were like anyone else; they used to be blue-collar dudes---plumbers, grocers, delivery men, UPS drivers, gas station attendants, former military grunts. They forget their roots and turn into assholes.

Vice will use several frequencies to operate so if you are equipped with a mobile digital scanner, you may want to tune into "Citywide", "Emergency Trigger simplex", LAPD Access (analog) simplex, and pertinent Area Tactical channels in simplex. You can find the frequencies on police radio scanner sites.

If it's organized crime/vice, they use Nextel radios so you won't be able to intercept them. But they don't really work cases involving street level mongering.
