I've gotten to know some of the Chinese foot massage ladies over the years. Many of them have paid fees in China of $20,000 to get to the US. Their families have borrowed to raise the cash. That cash gets distributed up and down the system to work out visa issues, documents, travel, housing, etc. Once they get here, they've got to work off the debt. Many start out working like slaves at Chinese restaurants. If you can believe it, the foot massage joints are a step up. In addition to the debts, most of them come to the US because they want to support elderly parents back home or find some way to start a life. Typically they will live 4-6 in an apartment to cut costs. Most of them work 12 hour days, 6 days a week. Once they start the foot massage world, they have 2 choices. They can try to get a body massage license, which means 3-6 months off work and a lot more debt. Or, they can just do just foot massages. They get to keep half the hourly rate plus whatever tips they get. In a good economy, the foot massage women average about $100 bucks a day. Those with body massage licenses of course do better. Most of that money goes to pay off debts or back home. It's not slavery, but it's a pretty bleak existence. I'm amazed that most of them can at least stay pleasant around customers. I don't think I could do that.
Had visitor from out of state last couple days, said he wanted a massage. I had heard about place off Sandy Plains by Arby's so I thought. Let him TOFTT. Everything you said is the same stuff they talk about on the TV show, but at the time they film these shows the only options at the time were for them to work in the massage houses they showed were they sleep like dogs, below the massage houses.

And to clarify my comment about the foot massage ladies, none of them are here against their wills either. They know what they are getting into before they leave China. They know it is going to be rough but think it's their best chance to earn some money and better their lives. Many of them do find out that they make much less than promised here. People don't buy as many foot massages in a bad economy. Also, most of them have to pay a bond to the spa manager that they will get back only after working for the contracted time. Once they land in a spa, they are pretty much stuck for 6 months. So it's bottom of the barrel employment, but it's nothing like slavery.

This is what I have heard. After the place is raided, in return to testify against the owner(s) for sex slavery, the girls are offered by the authority to stay legally. Even though some are not sex slaves at all. Who say the law is fair? In addition, the girls dont have to repay the ridiculous loan back any more.
