Too much sex overpowers the brains ability to process the extended release of Dopamine. So the brain shuts down the production and release of Dopamine, and soon changes how your brain regulates pleasure.

At some point, new neural pathways are created that tell that brain that sex is the primary behavior for pleasure to the exclusion of all else. This has been a terrible, unstoppable habit / addiction for me for the past ten years. I once banged over 400 different women in a 10 month period, and as some point it completely stopped being pleasurable. It was something that I did by rote, and it filtered just enough Dopamine to keep me somewhat level. Though I'm still a mess.

My case is an extreme example, but there are a lot of guys out there like me who swear every week that they're done with this hobby, and a few days later were back in the sack with an Asian hooker. My advice is to tone it down. Don't do it more than a couple times a week and you can probably enjoy a long career as a casual hobbyist. The thing about it is that I love doing it with women I don't know, but the addiction comes with depression, loss of friends, mood swings, dark secrets, lack of intimacy, money drain and on and on.

I can see how this hobby can easily turn into actual addiction. Already I'm starting to feel like my day isn't complete unless I've spent an hour with a beautiful escort. If I weren't so physically spent I would probably book another appointment today.

Having been an addict my entire life to multiple things, I know that there are multiple ways this can end up. Lucky for me as the years wore on, and after 4 years in various programs something just changed in my body chemistry and thinking. Behavior modification is the first step to recovery. But you cant do it alone.

I am now what the people in these programs call the impossible (and a threat to their orthodoxy). And so I stopped going to the meetings, as I was not interested in their abstinence only and holier than thou approach any more. Sometimes I still go off the deep end, but with the coping skills I learned in the programs I decided that trying to live a normal life was more in tune with my overall happiness, then worrying I was going to end up dead or in jail. (although have been to the hospital and arrested, both multiple times).

Because boredom doesn't really work too well for me either. Lucky for me one of the things I became addicted to was work. The down side is I can afford almost any addiction. So being able to deal with it became imperative. Not bragging. Just my experience.

But you my friend need to get to a meeting a day. Get a sponsor. And start working some kind of a program. Self help or trying to "control" my addictions never worked for me prior to gaining the knowledge and experience of other ppl just like me. And they are out there. You are far from alone. But you have to take the first step (all by yourself).

I had to hit multiple bottoms before I came to my senses. (surgeries, bankruptcies, LE, the threat of losing my kid, being a danger to myself and others, etc). I started down the road to recovery 20 years ago so its easy to talk about it now. Today I have no shame, very few secrets, and some normal fears. I am far from perfect but I am not living in the fear of losing anything (and I have lost everything a few times as well). So things could be worse. I say give it a try. There are plenty of free programs all over town. I would even go to one with you if you asked. Just one.

In summary... while I may have learned to control my behavior and addictions I am still an addict. So I am still in some danger, but not enough for me to go abstinent again or lose any sleep over it.
