The cheap phones last a year or two, and I'd suggest getting a new phone number and throwing away the old phone when it starts to crap out (delete all info, remove battery, and trash in a large public receptacle). Phones are as low as $15, and the airtime is cheap as well. Pay cash for the phones and minute cards.

This is no longer needed. You can get a google voice number for free, and use it to make calls from most smart phones with internet. No need to carry around 2 phones.
You can even text with it.

Since the google voice call is transferred to your existing phone, isn't there still an electronic record connecting the numbers? The beauty of the throwaway phone is there's no connection or electronic trail back to you.

You can change the number you want it forwarded to at anytime instantly. There is no way for the person you called to know you are calling from a different number NOR is there a way for the person calling you to know google is forwarding it to your number.

The only record is in your google account itself, which you can sign up for with completely bogus information.


If you are too concerned with LE tracing it back yes a hobby phone is better. But I am not concerned with that. And I do not like to carry 2 phones.

You can also use GV with a computer and VOIP.

As far as Verizon goes, 1000% happy with my interent and Cell service from them. If they want to do something its fine by me.

The only thing they have done in the 10+ years I have been with them that bugged me in the least was eliminating free access to binary newsgroups.

If you are talking about Google/Verizon agreement to sell tier'd levels of service to content providers, I know about this, I do not care, I doubt it will have any impact on my browsing experience.

Factually all ISPs control speeds. Thats how they can have different "packages"..
