Why did KITV decide to do this piece, giving a forum for Xian of PASS to spew her propaganda? Why wasn't Tracy Ryan of APLE given a chance to speak? It means higher ups in the local media shares PASS's ideological agenda or they have lapped up the propaganda of human trafficking, coercion and slavery. The trend points toward more and more of these news stories, hurting the discretion that the relaxation places need to operate.
Civil Beat which does a series of stories on prostitution is already in the back pocket of PASS. CB subsumes all stories on prostitution under the topic of human trafficking as if the two are the same.
I see one side going on the offensive, with the support of the media, using the most melodramatic propaganda tools, with total disregard for the truth. The disregard for the truth is deliberate. PASS and the media are not interested in knowing that the "brothels" provide a safe and clean environment for the customers and the girls, relative to other forms of prostitution. This is the last thing they would want to know or would want the public to know. They have a militant feminist ideological agenda, and that is all they care about.

That is why AMPs have been allowed to operate for decades. If there has been human trafficking and coercion involved, law enforcement would have cracked down long ago.
But now we have militant ideologues like PASS who is media savvy using the specter of human trafficking, coercion and slavery as a club to bash anyone involved in the issue, brining in tow sympathetic politicians, neighborhood boards, news media and those religiously inclined against prostitution.
It is a crazy situation with one side and its supporters trying to avoid the limelight and the other side and its supporters on an ideological crusade trying to throw as much light on the issue as possible. It is a fight between reasonable and compromising people on the one hand, and utopian and uncompromising nutjobs on the other. I have yet to see any reasonable and compromising people willing to step up to take a stance in public and refused to be intimidated, other than Tracy Ryan of APLE. She cannot do it alone. That is why I am pessimistic.
We have it so good in Hawaii that it is not even funny. We can gripe about overall cost of mongering and service or attitude of this or that girl, but I do not think we realize how a uniquely good situation we have in Hawaii.
