Had consultation with attorney today. Decided to play it safe and hire him, 1500 bones in total but only 500 upfront in monthly installments.

Do you know how many providers I could see for that?

Maybe it's the economist in me, but I think you're looking at this wrong.

If you divide $1500 by the number of providers you've seen, then that's the average financial risk per provider you need to account for. So let's say you've seen providers on 200 occasions (I have no idea, it could be considerably more if you see SWs), then you can price out your risk at $7. 50 per provider encounter. This is basically how insurance works.

In fact, you could go one further: add up the costs of all the STD tests you've had, your legal fees, gas, car maintenance due to mileage, costs of condoms, etc. And divide it by the number of provider sessions you've had: add that to the actual provider cost, and you now have a "real cost" for seeing providers. Now, if we lived in a civilized world, a monger would be able to purchase mongering insurance (to cover risks like STDs, pimp encounters, arrest, and other liabilities), but we don't, so you have to kind of create your own. It's a little like owning a Porsche; it's not enough to be able to afford the car, you have to be able to afford to drive the car: maintenance, gas, etc.

So let's say you discover your real cost for seeing providers is their fee plus, say, $12; so a $40 quickie is actually $52 in terms of real economic costs (not counting opportunity costs for things like not being on the clock when you're out hunting SWs, but you COULD if you want to be thorough!) Now let's say you see a provider weekly: you could want to set aside $12/ week to cover the "real cost" risk of seeing providers, or $624 per year; you could even have a dedicated account for it. Now, if you need a lawyer, or a pimp keys your car, or whatever, you have the funds to take care of it. Basically, you're acting as your own insurer.

(Note that this means a longer session is a better deal, since you're shifting the net cost from risk to service: a $40 quickie with $12 in risk, that's 30% of the cost of service; a $150 hour carries the same risk cost, since it's fixed per encounter, so now only about 8% of the net cost covers risk. Economics!)

One rule I live by, and my mother emphasized this to me like crazy, is to always have 6 months income "cash on hand" in a savings or other cash-equivalent account; in my mother's colorful words, a "shit happens" fund. I live by it! Nothing worse than getting caught short.

In order to have a viable forum it takes three groups. Content creators, content consumers, and advertisers. All of them play a part.

The advertisers, pay for eyeballs, that's all they care about. Without the advertisers the forum closes. End of story.

As with most forums our lurkers outnumber contributors by about 10-1. We have around 500,000 to 600,000 page loads a day from usually around 200,000 unique visitors. We have about 30,000 active members so the other 170,000 or so are people who just show up for whatever reason. Guys who come here and just read are vital, without them the advertisers don't pay, then we close.

Content creators, the guys who post, without them why would anybody come, so again we close. The thing is though without the other two we are also closed so where would they write?

All three need the other two to keep the site going.
