MONROE, CT — Police are investigating an incident in which someone attempted to scam a man out of $2,000, using nude photos of him as leverage.
Lt. Stephen Corrone said, on Sunday, police received a report from a man who said he had been in contact with someone on Facebook who claimed to be a woman who was entitled to a lot of money. However, Corrone said, the woman told the man she couldn't yet access the money, and asked the man to send her Amazon gift cards.
The man reportedly sent her $100 in gift cards. Corrone said the two also exchanged nude photos. Eventually, Corrone said, the woman contacted the man and threatened to send the nude photos to his family if he didn't give her $2,000.
Instead, the man reported the incident to police. No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation.
Corrone cautioned others to be on alert for this type of extortion scheme, and to report any suspicious behavior to police.
"I wouldn't say this is common," Corrone said. "But it is a scam that we have seen in the past. ".
There is a post in the Springfield MA escort review section from a provider who says there are emails being sent by STG to providers to prove their identity.
They are to provide photo ID pix to STG to prove they are a legit person. Could be a scam in its self or a legit attempt to get the scammers out.
