The battleship captain, having been at sea for several months, decided it was time to pull into port for a refit. He called ahead to the harbor master of his favorite Moonlit harbor and confirmed that there would, indeed, be a mechanic available to service his ship. When he arrived, the harbor master greeted him warmly and introduced him to Cookie, who would be his mechanic for this refit.
After removing all unnecessary accoutrements from the battleship, Cookie began a thorough scrub-down. She washed all parts of the ship, paying particular attention to the aft section. When she got to the upper deck, she nearly caused an accidental firing of the main gun before the captain directed her attention elsewhere. After a final rinsing, the ship was moved to dry-dock for some serious maintenance.
Cookie started with a full rub-down of the aft decks, applying just enough pressure to relieve the stresses built up in the hull. Afterward, she shed her mechanic's coveralls to begin the more labor-intensive work. Cookie obviously had talent, having graduated top in her class at this particular port, despite having only scored perfect B's. The captain was impressed, however, as she definitely applied herself to her work, seeming eager to do the best job she could. She turned her attention to the main gun, starting first with a full inspection of the ammo magazine, then applying a thin cover which reduced the friction somewhat as she gave the barrel an excellent polishing.
When the heat built up in the barrel nearly to the ignition point, the captain suggested that Cookie take a break and show him her toolbox. It was very clean and well-kept, and the captain explored it thoroughly, eliciting sounds of approval from the young mechanic. When the captain and Cookie were both satisfied with the inspection, the captain finally had her cover the main gun with her satin sheath, which fit perfectly, but unfortunately made the gun fire after about ten seconds.
Cookie cleaned up the shrapnel from the firing, helped the captain replace the ship's fittings, filled the holds with candy, and sent the captain on his way. The total refit bill was .7 for the harbor master, and $ for Cookie's time and skill. As the battleship pulled out of port, the captain made an entry in the log, indicating that he would definitely return to this port in the not too distant future to take advantage of the excellent ship service.
It doesn't get better than this. Very good analogy almost made me want to bring my ship in for a refit! LOL
