Planning my first visit to 1021 ne t week, I have always been reluctant due to the area it's in. What is the deal with the side door, is there a bell or is it always open? I guess same question about the front door. I used to do a lot of work in that area and was never really afraid of my truck getting vandalized but I am now for some reason.

All hours ranging from 9 am to 1-2 am back in the days. Nobody's going to bother you or touch your car.
I always park on the side street right next to the side door. If there's no space there, it's OK to park in the lot behind the building (confirmed with mamasan). Either way it's a very short walk to the side door which is always open. Just act like you've been there 100 times. Don't run to the door. Don't look down at the ground but don't look around either, just mind your business and do what you came to do. Everybody is doing their own thing, nobody cares what you're doing there and 99.9% of people don't want any trouble. I am confident in saying it's completely safe. I've also never seen a police car anywhere near there in all my years of visiting. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Had no issues parked on the street just fine. Only thing, not sure if they still do it. Now and then there was a food truck festival nice experience, easy to disappear in a crowd but made parking more difficult.
